This may be a dumb question but does cardio running build the same muscles as a leg workout routine would in a gym?

This may be a dumb question but does cardio running build the same muscles as a leg workout routine would in a gym? Or does cardio mostly just lower fat and burn stamina?

Sure but not as much as actual leg day. Cardio from time to time is still a good idea. Me in the middle.

It builds muscle to some degree but after some time your body start to actually optimise your muscles due to the high energy consumption and decides whether you need to get them bigger (it does it if you lift big wrights) or just morph muscle types and lactic acid disposal

not too dumb of a question. running also builds a lot of muscle, but mostly endurance, it gives a lot of size but it doesnt translate into strenght.

    Obviously no

Why not? And how is it obvious?

Not enought mechanical tension, no progressive overload not a way to measure total muscle workout volume.

Lifting weights is lifting weights and cardio is cardio.

          >no progressive overload
What about running a longer and longer distance over time?

            Anonymous

You are not increasing the tension while maintaining the volume.

Just compare the legs of a marathonist with a bodybuilder legs

Also, there is nothing wrong with running. Running is a excellent cardio, great for cardiovascular health, but you will not build your legs with it

    Ots a moronic question.
Your body has two sets of muscles. One set for stupid shit like cardio and the other set for lifting heavy shit.
    >if I train my running muscles will my lifting muscles get good?!?!
    No. You dumb fricking jigger.

      Anonymous

No moron you do not have two different sets of muscles, you have different muscle fibers within the same muscles which are more efficient at different processes, much like white cell/red cell in blood. One muscle fiber is denser, more compact and efficient at detoxifying the muscle fiber from its lactic acid and binding the fibres together, while another is more elastic, fast and powerful in its tensility allowing you to be more explosive, and to generate ''power'' or ''drive'' in short bursts.
Yes, if he trains his running muscles, his lifting muscles will get better because, they are the same muscle idiot. He will, however achieve a different muscle composition over time, and thus generate a different look depending on capacity of exercise most training.
For example moron, a Black person can still run sprints : speed, power, drive, intensity and build a different physique than an endurance marathoner...Before you open your mouth and start pontificating on others, check yourself you ignoramus. 90 IQ detected, bottom of the midwit barrel right here.

I haven't built any muscle from LISS cardio, but I have definitely seen some small gains from HIIT cardio with high resistance.

One day anon, you will learn that the miles you needed to run, all the miles you needed to run, were the friends you made along your sessions... and at that point you'll see that you've surpassed the impossible.

If cardio running did build the same muscles as leg workouts in the gym, wouldn't marathon runners have SHIT FRICKING HUGE TREE TRUNK LEGS?

  11. 3 months ago

That is literally exactly what I’m lifting for

  12. 3 months ago

It won't build impressive muscle but it will get a rudimentary amount, since the adaptation to long distance running is "tight" bodies rather than big muscles.

  13. 3 months ago

    >Build
No. It has minimal range of motion and uses almost 0 of the kinds of muscle fibers and energy metabolism which result in hypertrophy. That's not to say cardio isn't important. I'm not that guy. Having good cardio and some agility in your step feels amazing and helps me move so much more confidently.

BUT, no amount of running will ever stand in for an actual proper leg day.

Cardio excels at growing type 1 muscle fibers, if you look at long distance runners they are not that noticeable/impressive but keep in mind that having these muscle fibers can make the difference between growing into an active elderly person that doesn't need help or a feeble old frick that is wheelchair bound

The only cardio I know of that can build legs is biking with lots of resistance. Even then you might not get a full leg workout as there may be parts that can end up less developed such as hamstrings and calves.

Running will increase the mitochondrial and capillary density in your leg muscles so they can bring in and use more oxygen. So it trains them but not so much in the same way that squatting high loads will. If you have chicken legs they will grow from running though especially if you incorporate some hills and faster intervals. If you have giant fricking legs already then probably no change or even shrink.
