Before I started using the CPAP, definitely. I was sore and tired all the time. Recovery to 2x as long. Now on CPAP even with shitty sleep, I recover betten than when I was choking for air 20 times a night

Meditate or journal beforehand. Get it out of your system basically. Make it a habit.

Picture a chalkboard and listen to your breath.
Whenever a thought crosses your mind, add it to the mental image of your chalkboard, just a single word is fine.
Every few breaths, erase your chalkboard.

I do visualization exercises. I visualize something I can hold in my hands and I imagine manipulating it in different ways. I used to play various sports, so I usually imagine either a baseball or basketball. I visualize rubbing my fingers across the stitches or raises bumps until I can actually feel them. This keeps my mind too busy for any intrusive thoughts and usually induces pretty good dreams.

^this. It helps me a lot. Sometimes I start to overthink what have recently happened. I just visualise my gym routine. I concentrate on form prior doing like squat and just count reps. Usually I drop out around 2nd exercise.

Turn off your mind. If you can't do that, it's because you're not meditating enough. It's very simple. Your body wants to be on a schedule, it craves routine so it can operate on autopilot as often as possible. Set a time to go to bed and stick with it, eventually you'll start waking up without an alarm. There's tons of "sleep hygeine" shit you can read up on but from my own experience, it's just your mind running without your input. It's yours, learn to control it.

      Anonymous

This. You need a routine to stick to.

I think the hardest part is day 1 when you're fixing your routine. Best bet is to just try not to sleep much the day before and do as much physically demanding things you can that day. Then while it's early like 7:30pm, take a melatonin, take a hot shower so your body cools itself all night, and lay in bed until you drift. Set an alarm for something very early like 5:30 or 6. The key to sleeping well is to wake up early and not be a degen

        Anonymous

Exactly. I'm in bed at 8pm and my body wakes me up at 3:58am, like clockwork. Every single day. And yeah, it's good to start on a day where you're absolutely exhausted either from lack of sleep or exercise. I'd also add to put the phone/tv/computer away an hour before bed. If you need stimulation then read a physical book.

    * No lights of any kind about 1 hour before bed and the whole night (including bathroom lights)
    * No eating at night
    * Don't eat anything 2 hours before bed
    * Don't drink much water before bed
    * Try various pillow heights. Your head might not be at the right elevation for your body when sleeping
    * Use melatonin to shift the start of your sleep schedule, not as a perpetual sleep aid. Don't use more than 0.3 mg of melatonin
    * just accept whatever is happening at night (sleep or no sleep) and be at peace with your existence in all its forms

I bet none of what I just said will work though lmao

      >Don't drink much water before bed

How to deal with thirst? No health issues. Should I increase the water intake early so I don't get that thirsty later? Because I get too thirsty at night and then I have to wake up to pee and it's a vicious cycle

        Anonymous

Nta, but I just keep a glass of water next to my bed. It's enough so I can take a sip if I do wake up, but not enough to make me have to pee before the morning if I finish it. Also helps if you can make sure that you always get some fresh air and don't let the room get too warm.

        Anonymous

That's what I did: drink a ton of water in the morning to make sure I get enough water for the rest of the day

Also, what really helped me is not eating so much salt / sodium. From what I understand, if you eat too much salt, you retain more water, and then when your sodium levels drop you start peeing the water out. Since you're not eating at night, your kidneys are removing sodium from your blood and so you are constantly having to pee

        Anonymous

Yeah, maybe drink more during the day. I stop drinking 90 minutes before bed. I piss right before I get in bed and have no issues with thirst

Whenever I go to sleep late I get 10-12 hours of uninterrupted sleep but I don't know how healthy that is compared to getting 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep when going to sleep early and waking up early.

I used to have pretty crap sleep when i was a bit chubby (~20% bf) and only lifted weights. Since doing lots of cardio, eatings more veggies and getting lean, my sleep has been amazing. I go to bed, dont wake up once and feel super refreshed. Don't even get a mid day slump in energy if i get less than normal amount of sleep for whatever reason
