If you have a good diet, slowly build a solar callus in spring and live in your ancestral latitude, than sunscreen is probably doing you more harm than good. I actually live a little closer the the equator (uk - anglo/nordic cross) but it's close enough. during the summer i don't burn at all, and slowly build a nice, healthy tan. However, if i go abroad closer to the equator, i will use a light mineral sunscreen and wear protective clothing.
The most important thing MANY people do not know is to not wear sunglasses. the eye's exposer to UV light stimulates the production of melanin in the skin. YOU WILL BURN if you wear sunglasses!

Stop caring about how you will look when you're old unless you're into granny porn.
It makes you look "old" sooner, maybe even when you're not old.
