      It's called lifting.
      Not "setting shit down"

If you can't control the descent you're ego lifting for imaginary man points. In reality your PRs are fake because you never properly did the movement. You would never accept someone's bench press if they only did the press and then a team helped lower it back down to their chest.

        Anonymous

I lower it with control when doing sets for reps but drop it when doing PRs or when a woman is nearby.

          Anonymous

Then you didn't do a PR. It doesn't count if you can only do half the movement anon. That's like saying you squatted 300 lbs but you started with the bar positioned at the bottom of the squat.

setting the weight back down is better for muscle development.

        >t. 4plates for reps

The strength portion of the exercise is lifting the weight off the ground, not putting it back down. Lowering the bar increases fatigue and chance of injury, it is not "better for muscle development."

Understandable if it's a set of heavy singles, up to triples imo. Maybe even reps of 5 if it's a peak set. Eccentric (the putting down phase) builds more muscle (not sure if strength) and is quite tiring to the system, by avoiding that phase you can theoretically allocate more power into the concentric (lifting up). If you lift seriously for strength, it makes sense, even if you're lifting 135lbs, it'll help. You'd be israeliteing yourself out of a lot of gains if you start dropping your top set deadlifts at 135 though, so I'd wait until you're lifting heavy for the drop.

      bait

      KEK, literally me deadlifting.

Arr ypu checking the dictionary to remember what eccenctric)isometric and concentric mean? why do you think you have to explain everything you say? this is not r/weightroom you moron, most people here actually lift.

          Anonymous

Maybe I should leave IST since all of you homosexuals automatically go into defensive aggression mode whenever someone makes a mistake that could be explained by a simple attention span error. Whenever I’m posting here I usually do something else, either at work or at my own leisured and combined with English not being my native language, it can happen that this shit just slips my mind.
You still haven’t disproven my point though, eccentric* (the lowering portion) is the most muscle-building side of the lift, right after it is concentric (the lifting up portion) and dead last is isometric (holds, like planks). The human body is the strongest in eccentric = we are the strongest at putting shit down, rather than lifting up. I haven’t read the literature on strength training, but muscle building should be done with focus on the eccentric, especially in the stretched position of the movement. If you’re chasing strength, I could see the omitting of eccentric as an excuse, frick I do it with top set sumos when I lift for strength, but omitting the eccentric is just plain dumb, even if you’re just lifting for strength, because it’s just time under tension you’re missing out on and I can imagine that even the eccentric has some strength building potential. Not every set has to be the heaviest set you ever do and it’s always impressive when the lifter can actually control the weight and put it down with some level of control.

tldr; you’re a homosexual, so is OP, slamming weight is acceptable under specific situations. Frick off, the only reason I don’t go to Reddit is because I can’t stand the community and I’ve been stuck here for longer than 10 years.

Why do some people lean way back at the top of their deadlift?
Also, why do people lean way the frick back when doing "overhead press"

      Anonymous

They want to increase their risk of a lumbar spine injury.

      Anonymous

leaning back in ohp is to cheat the rep by turning it into basically a standing incline bench. ruins the spine and makes you a b***h

      Anonymous

Some people hyper extend at the top of a dead because powerlifters do it at times to show they’ve locked out the rep. It’s unsafe and not something anyone should do in their normal training.
As for hip movement in the OHP, there’s some necessary movement to move your head out of the bar path and then shrug it forward (ie, moving your head around the bar, not the bar around your head in order to maintain an efficient and vertical bar path) but some dweebs just lean way back and turn the movement into a gay standing incline bench press (this is actually what got it removed from the Olympics, it became too difficult to judge consistently) and this is bad for your lower back and moronic and works your shoulders less, but since it helps you put up more weight it will be performed this way by ego lifters until the end of time.

The fricking movement is ExPLOSIVE HIPS.
There's nothing fricking EXPLOSIVE about gently setting a bar down.
Yeah just getting my SPINE TENDONS stronger setting the bar down slowly.
    Frick off with that shit.

Daddy issue homosexuals bringing attention to themselves because they're so starved for it. Then zoomers see it on tiktok/insta and think that's what you're supposed to do.

People like that never worked out hard in their lives. I can control it with 3 reps. With 12, past the 5th or 6th I can barely recognize people calling my name because I'm too winded up by the exercise and can't do much more than counting up to 12.

      THIS
i get up after a set of high rep diddlys and my vision blurs forget about controlling the weight.

i yelled at some kid last week for slamming every weight he lifted. last straw was he was slamming on lat pulldowns while i was doing chin ups on the same equipment
i rember reading here that if you have to slam the weight down you should be lifting less weight. i've never had to lift something where setting it down was make or break on rep completion

No, she is right, if you are just "dropping the weight" your deadlift form is shit

  25. 5 months ago

It's not part of the movement and you're taking away potential power from the actual movement by wasting effort on putting the weight down.
And deadlifts are already tiring and dangerous as frick at higher weights, you don't want to add to that.

I can set it down relatively soundlessly at 100kg, at 120kg and above that shit drops no cap senpai.

The morons on IST think that deadlifting is not only a good lift, but that there's also no benefit to the negative, which would be setting the weight down. Anyone still deadlifting is doing it for ego, because it's an easy lift to pile on a ton of weight at the expense of form while also fricking their spine.

Stop deadlifting, it's useless for anything other than heavier deadlifting and you will visit snap city.

If you can't put the weight down you picked up, you're a weak homosexual. Headphones on your ears so you don't have to hear the slam and your own moronic Black person howls.

This is not some complicated shit.
If you give 100% to get the maximum amount of weight to the designated position then you have 0% to gently get it back down again, and trying to do so may result in injury.
Demanding otherwise is magical thinking, moronation or trolling.

I've yet to see anyone doing more than 3 pl8 set it down gently. You don't need to drop it from the top, but you should let gravity take the bar in a controlled fashion

It's because they're weak. I see the same thing with anyone using any weights in general. They pay for the gym but honestly anyone who does that should get banned.
They're just annoying, they're no different than all the gym thots

  38. 5 months ago

because they have trained their arms to only pick things up
they have no muscle control so when its up they have to drop it.
should be a gym perma ban honestly.

I'm going to assume that most of the naysayers in this thread don't see any Oly lift as legitimate because, you know. I'm not being facetious. None of the people that have ever complained about me deadlifting (there have been several regulars) has ever deadlifted themselves that I've ever observed.

    Real answer:
Once you get past complete novice weight on deadlift the risk of injury becomes much higher on the eccentric movement, its a lot safer to only do the concentric half of the lift and drop the weight or let gravity bring you back down.

You could be getting so many more gains by lowering the bar back down

I got complained about grunting from deadlifting 2 1/2 plate at my local planet fitness, apparently they have a 3 strike rule before kicking you out. how the frick can anyone get big at that place, that 2.5 plate kicked the shit outta, couldn’t imagine doing it without being as audible as I was, probably will never get big now with getting kicked out next time

wait there are dumb motherfrickers that think the eccentric part of a movement doesnt build muscle and strength?

how do you think i got my first pull up when i couldnt do any

      Anonymous

Nobody said that. We said it's not safe once you pass a certain weight threshold, which it isnt. There is an entire seperate lift dedicated to doing the eccentric part of the conventional deadlift (Romanian dead lift). If you want to do that, do that. Leave the eccentric part out of the conventional deadlift.
