Wood working/carving is probably my only real hobby.
I don't think video games or reading count, but I do both.
I've been trying to get into bonsai more but that's a slow burn kind of thing.
I also don’t think consuming media is a hobby but learning about things definitely is. That’s why I specified non fiction.

>drawing

>fighting people at night(mostly homeless and drunks)
>fighting random people
Beating up homeless people is based but eventually you’re going to get stabbed or blindsided with a blunt object. Greentext most recent fight and post knuckles or I don’t believe you
>gunpla
>more gunpla but mecha girls
>play armored core
>watch mecha shows
Don’t need more, will sacrifice everything to pilot a mech and kill myself in the first dogfight
So you exist solely to consume media other people have created? Grim.
What art/media was the earth graced by you?
I’m not saying I have anything against consuming media I’m just saying it doesn’t count as a hobby. I’ve recorded music and played a couple shows, I sit in at a jazz club downtown once in a while.. I guess those count. I mostly play for my own enjoyment
Idk I get a good forearm and hand pump when I play but I doubt you can do what you say
How can consuming media not count as a hobby?

I also used to cook professionally and it was pretty artsy I guess
> that will be 200 dollah please
nta but usually the reason that shit is so expensive is because they use exotic ingredients that are usually extremely fresh and next day delivered, as well as it takes literal years to refine your palette and learn about flavors enough to make a dish like that.yeah it’s a meme how small the servings are and how cringey the soi le foodie gays are, but it’s legit

Just let me enjoy mecha, I’m fully aware it’s a fantasy but I enjoy the idea. Have a dream for a change.
My dreams are all dead and buried
don't listen to that guy. model building is a based hobby. most people here won't have the patience or commitment for it
Oh, that’s definitely a hobby
It’s a passive activity. Hobbies are actively engaging and you can ordinarily get better at them

Not at the other anons level, but is one of THE most well-rounded, utilitarian and social hobbies to practice.
>Shooting guns, tactical larp shit
The world refuses to collapse but it's fun to practice.
>Astronomy
Very cool to learn about planetary movements and events close to earth, I have high-powered binoculars with a large objective lens which works well, but I'd love a telescope. Also ties well into:
>Hiking
To get away from light pollution in the city and to enjoy the night sky when the sun goes down. Good for dates, take binoculars and a picnic blanket.
>Peeping Tom
I use my aforementioned binoculars to observe interesting goings-on in the neighborhood, the city skyline and perv on women changing/working out/fricking.
>Light aircraft aviation
Excellent hobby, expensive so haven't done it much since the pandemic.
>Map-reading/Creating
I'm learning to draw my own maps of both real locations and made-up ones. I actually got one recently, a German army map of north africa with a reference to Rommel on it. Pretty neat tbqhwufam
>D&D
I'm just starting and I'm having fun, highly dependent on a good group
>Boxing
For fitness and toughness, good social foil to the geeks at D&D
>Fricking latinas

>Printing and posting far-right political stickers around the neighborhood to incite moral panic among leftist NPCs
Sometimes you just gotta have fun 🙂
>FD is entertainment
That's an interesting take, anon. I've eaten at many 2 and 3 star restaurants and while I have had some amazing dishes, a lot of them are as good to me as chipotle. I don't have a particularly refined palette but I also don't want to feel pressured or stupid because I don't know 'how' to eat the sort of thing you're posting. Do you cook those sort of larks with an expectation of 'how' the customer is going to eat it?
Mechwarrior 2 and the Timberwolf are among my fondest memories of the 90s. Based.
FD is cool because you get to eat things that you’d never in a million years cook at home that are prepared and arranged by professionals who have creative and clever flavor/texture combinations. When you get to the high levels you’re 100% cooking food that YOU find interesting or worthwhile, the customer doesn’t k kw shit and they don’t know what they want so catering to the guest is the last thing you wanna do. If they dislike something that’s their issue, if you’re actually good you know your food is good.
It was a ton of fun for a long time. Ideally when you eat those dishes you want a little bit of each component in a bite
>Peeping Tom
What kind of binoculars do you recommend for this purpose?
There's nothing IST about assembling shitty model kits. At least do something that takes skill and involes paint and glue dude.

If you consider drumming to be physical in any way either your insanely out of shape or your technique is fricked i can blast beat for an hour and feel nothing
> i can blast beat for an hour and feel nothing
At what speed and volume
Finger technique on triggered pad/e-kit doesn't count
Idk I don’t actually play the drums I’ve been playing guitar for about 3 weeks tho
There are people with good technique who deliberately play it up for the sake of showmanship. The way I play live on the stage is nothing like how I play in the studio. I can also blastbeat all day long by using good technique but people want to be entertained, and a drummer going nuts is entertaining for many people.

And I’m thankful everyday
I’d say it takes about 6 months until you are comfortable dancing socially with random people. I’ve been dancing salsa for a lil bit over a year and bachata about 6 months and I just got comfortable. The main issue I have is forgetting your possible move set. Best way is to memorize a few go-to combos that you could lead to a non-dancer blindfolded, and build from there
As meme as it is, there’s truth to it. There’s some weird autists that come to class, they don’t try to pick up on women but it’s obvious they feel uncomfy in their own bodies, but at least they are trying
No, I just feel like it’s a good usage of strength display and continuous improvement and understanding of body… I have thought of being a stripper once I get better but I’ve realized I would just be dancing for aggressive gay men and not 10/10 milfs so that’s upsetting
Does salsa dancing help get women? im 5'6"
Yeah bro even if you’re like novice tier if you can pull off some of the moves women will be attracted to you
for me its

i need to weight train 🙁
>latin dancing
Saw a post about a salsa/ bachata class in my area, been thinking about going. How long would you say it'd take to be able to dance at a basic level after attending 4 classes? I think they'd be between an hour or two, I forgot.
someone post the screencap about the woman telling engineering autists to stop doing salsa dancing

Also based.

wanna go surfing, how to mix with lifting? I'm on a bulk
>cooking
Kinda it but thats more to live. I used to go bowling thinking about getting back into it. Got my hunting and fishing license and hoping to do that with my friends come spring.
Anyone else never talk about their hobbies or interest because you find them cringy or you’re not good enough at them yet???
I really like planted aquariums. It's a lot of work at times but I can lose hours trimming and arranging stuff.
I'm not super great or anything. I don't know how to make em look better or use super fancy lights and co2. It's just nice to make a little space that looks so natural.
That’s cool as frick. I wanted to make a self sustaining ecosystem terrarium or get a reef tank which are a TON of work but very very cool
Thanks brother. You can find some nice 2 gallon storage jars on Amazon for like 20 bucks that can get you going pretty quick. I just have some plants and snails in it right now but the concept works with no water changes really needed. I drop a pinch of food in here and there because I like big snails and I cannot lie.
Man, that's really nice. I found an O2 tank that I might research using for CO2. I think risking killing everybody is what's really kept me away. Nice to know they can have timers.
My thought was to put dry ice into the O2 tank to keep stuff cheap. Where do you get yours?
Gorgeous tank! I love Corys. Little buffalo zooming all around the bottom and frick like crazy. Haha.
I have too many tanks too. Found a 20 tall I was using as a holding tank temporarily that I think is about to get done permanent but, found what I think is a 48 gallon tall (24hx13dx36w) for free that I'm almost gitty to make mine. MTS is a helluva disease. Haha
I just used a fluval c02 adapter kit and a tank from a paintball store. I never set mine up for a timer and just made it a habit to turn off at night. I never used it on tanks with anything other than plants though because at the time I was really into cherry shrimp and was terrified of suffocating them.
CO2 asphyxiation is more prevalent w/ supbar CO2 set up than proper ones. But even subpar CO2 set up is not likely, because your efficiency would be too shit to diffuse enough CO2 into the water to kill the critters. Also smaller tank will be more susceptible to it than larger volume.
Planted aquarium gay here,
Running CO2 is borderline advance level shit, but only if you really want to invest seriously into the planted aspect of the hobby. Most aquatic plants can do w/out CO2, but will thrive w/ it. Some advanced plants cannot do w/out it. Most aquatic critters do not mind CO2, they do prefer the more acidic PH as a result of CO2, but really does not matter much.
Looking at that tank
I would say you do not need it yet. Rather, look for Seachem Flourish, which is a type of CO2 supplement that you dose like fertilizers. It is way more convenient than a proper CO2 injection set up, and cheaper (initially) too. It has been a while since I looked into this CO2 sup, so other brands might have came up w/ similar thing so look around.
A proper CO2 set up w/ dual stage regulator, all the goddamn connections and valves, and diffuser, and tank will run you about $300-500. Steep, but it will last a life time for the hobby.
When I first setup my tank, i accidentally put a ton of co2 in and they were swimming upside down. I did like 10 water changes over a half day, and everybody lived.
My recommendation is start with 1 bubble per second, check the drop checkers color after 3-4 hours, then slowly increase over the course of a week or two until it is the proper color. (Light greenish yellow)
Man get into c02. It's really easy and makes the plants grow so fast and green. I'm shit at maintenance but the c02 and ferts brings the tank alive
Just remember to turn it off at night if it's not on a timer if you have any fish or shrimp in it. Otherwise you'll only have corpses the next morning. This is my 0 maintenance spec v tank that I just top off. I used to be super into aquariums (had 15 at one point) but they're an absolute time sink. Just have this one and a 40g breeder with cory's now
Nah, i leave mine on 24/7, you just got to get the drops down to the right frequency, which is pretty ez over a week or two with a drop counter.
I don't consider myself advanced at all, and I disagree. It's pretty easy. Also $300-$500 onetime is not expensive at all for a hobby, and for the time/effort it saves growing plants IMO.
Good, then do some research and get yourself a proper CO2 set up. The main thing is the dual stage regulator along w/ all the correct adapters and solenoid, and needle valve. The tank is flexible, you can do 5 lb, or 10lb or even 20lb. Refill at any beverage equipment store for kegs and shit.
You can get a commercial quality, nickle plated or chromed dual stage regulator on Ebay ($100-300). The adapters are a pain in the ass and best acquired through various planted tank forums. Same for solenoid and needle valve (another $50-100). The diffuser can be fancy glass or just stone, or inline ($20-50).
Or frick all that scavenger's hunt and buy complete regulator set up. I recommend from other enthusiast cause generally cheaper.
W/ a solenoid and timer, the whole thing is pretty much turn key.
Aquarium is my main hobby. Space constraint right now, so not able to pick it up again.
Uhh did you respond to the wrong guy? I do have a proper c02 setup.
video games, general IST shit, model airplanes
playing metal inbetween lifting
I restringed my guitar and finally played again for the first time in 5 months today
Playing guitar truly is freeing. Feelsgoodman
Can somebody who has no experience with instruments or musical theory learn to play guitar?
Most guitar players start with 0 experience and no music theory knowledge. Neither are necessary for getting started with an instrument.
Easily. The history of guitar is littered with people who picked it up without any formal music education. You will learn, much, much faster with a teacher, but with enough motivation, everything you need to know is online. I played for maybe a year and a half before taking lessons, and that was mostly because I felt like I was getting too old to get any good.
Sidenote: "playing guitar" isn't one thing. You will only get good at what you practice, and these skills are only somewhat transferrable to other techniques. Some people have only played open chords for 20 years, so that's all they can do. When I started, I very quickly glazed over the open chords and I'm still not very good at them. If you play lead, you'll get good at lead. If you play rhythm, you will get good at rhythm. No amount of playing metal will prepare you for fingerpicking folk songs. Guitar has a million little niches and you should not follow any teacher or lesson plan that tells you what you have to learn first. Play the things that you actually want to play.
A good rhythm player can more easily transition to a lead player than vise versa.
I play in drop B electric and various open tunings for acoustic depending on whether or not I’m playing with a slide. Slide is fun as frick
is it better to start with a classical/acoustic guitar or to jump straight onto an electric one?

What’s your background. I would like to learn tk fly fish, it seems comfy to the max
Honestly, a little bit of everything. I work for myself doing industrial maintenance now, but what got me here was working in R&D and building prototypes for a manufacturing company. I never nailed down a specific trade and instead became proficient in multiple that allows me to essentially keep production facilities running. Working on cnc machines, working on high voltage, making and understanding logic and low voltage circuits, etc. I basically just grew up poor, learned how to fix everything out of necessity, went to college, got a degree I don't use, and just fix big intimidating shit that other people don't even know how to approach in regards to troubleshooting.
>fly fishing
Do it. Everyone that fly fishes can fish conventional tackle but not vice versa. There's NOTHING like catching big bass or salt species on the fly. Trout are my favorite, but bass on thr fly is almost a drug. Learn to roll cast first, then start working on throwing tight loops.
man I miss machining. I took some classes in college but I don't really machine anything these days.

It’s not a competition anyway. Most women and people in general don’t even have creative or mentally stimulating things they enjoy doing. They have zero skills, eating food isn’t a hobby.

I often watch those chemical safety board report videos
My personal favorite is the Byford dolphin accident. There’s also another one where a guy got winched up through a 10” hole on an oil rig. Saturation diving and oil rig workers are just asking for it.
Classical like nylon strings? Or acoustic? Tonality doesn’t really translate from acoustic to electric at all but it’s also a much smaller investment. For 5-600 bucks you can get a very nice sounding acoustic that plus well but for electric you’re automatically in it for over a grand if you want to sound decent.
>There’s also another one where a guy got winched up through a 10” hole on an oil rig.

I don’t like watching videos, seeing people die isn’t something I’m interesting in, but I’m not the guy you replied to I’m the other guy.
Just buy a bowl lol
it's not videos of the deaths, it's a report video detailing why and how the incident happened and potential solutions, including testimony from people who were there, safety officials, experts on certain things, etc. It's really informative, actually.
I like the Delta P video, I guess. Also somewhat unrelated but there's this video called "Shake Hands with Danger" on youtube that's also a fun watch.

>don't feel the desire to put in the effort to even find or try out hobbies because of how alone and pathetic i am
>therefore, don't do any hobbies
>and remain alone
i go through threads like these and see all the hobbies that people do and nothing seems interesting at all. i ride my bike for transportation but i dont bother meeting people in a cycling club or talking to riders on the subway or anything. i watch some sports but just watch alone in my room. i dont talk to people at the gym. i waste every night pissing around in front of the computer/tv, and sometimes waste entire weekends if i dont have a plan, but i just dont care about the effort required to try to find hobbies
just end it all man
