Living in Portugal with this hot weather fricking sucks. Sure is nice when you're at the beach but besides that is uncomfortable, people become noisier, you sweat your balls off just by going for an easy bike ride. 20C is the perfect temperature, 38C is nothing but pain.

Why the frick is it almost hitting 40C in Portugal lmao that's extreme even for those arab countries

        Anonymous

It was over 40C in some places yesterday. People here like to sperg about climate changing or deny it but the weather is shittier, in the 90s we had spring, summer, autumn and winter, now is just a mild, incredibly dry winter/spring and a far hotter summer. Currently the weather here is hotter and far drier, rainy days are nonexistent. And this is a fact because I'm a >30yo boomer and I've lived through it.

          Anonymous

Climate change will cause more extremes, its not just that it will be hotter all the time, floods, extreme colds and extreme heats will be normal due to million factors like release of methane into the atmosphere due to higher temperatures

                okay, so you're literally moronic
we have actual data for like past 100-120 years
we have nobody knows how imprecise estimates for the last several centuries
we have some literal guesswork for several thousand years
                earth is 4bln years
even if any of those estimates was not pulled out of someones ass making any conclusions from 1/40'000 fraction is as moronic as you are

Temperature of Earth without atmosphere fully formed is completely irrelevant, you would not even recognize its the same planet if you traveled back in time 4bn years. You can get pretty accurate of previous temperature using trees, glaciers and corals

                >Temperature of Earth without atmosphere fully formed is completely irrelevant
yeah, atmosphere was formed 20'000 years ago thats why we can completely disregard any period of time before 20k BC. Also dinosaurs went extinct because there was no atmosphere then and they couldn't breathe

not really, the point is that you can't draw any conclusions disregarding 99.9975% of time and then claim highest temperature evar

                Anonymous

Why do you think prehistory is relevant at all? Humans that existed lived primitive lives then so we can't draw any parallels. Talking about millions or billions of years when humans or any present species didn't even exist is idiotic. Even most of recorded history which started 5000 years ago is irrelevant too. The whole point of climate talk is about humanity sustaining our modern agricultural way of life, and hopefully postindustrial too. If you can't see that the conditions for our way of life on earth are consistently worsening you're too deep into conspiracies. This is not about the joos or dems or libs. This is about farming and fishing and wildlife.

                Anonymous

                >Why do you think prehistory is relevant at all?
are you shilling or moronic? if you want to draw any conclusions from the data you cannot disregard over 99.99% of said data. The point here is that if you look further than last century the temperatures are not high, the CO2 levels are not high.
Your argument is idiotic, it's not about what it is about but the conclusions drawn from the data: >muh co2, redus emishons
which will not work because that's not it.

we'll just waste resources on reducing emissions, tank the economy and achieve nothing. the temperature drift is happening - because it's caused by other factor(s). And the fact that it is not caused by muh industrial revolushan is obvious if you look back at the 99.99% disregarded data.

climate change and global warming are two different things. The planet overall is warming (global warming) leading to climate change. Things like unusual weather/storms/snow. Remember when Texas literally froze like 2 years ago.

Boomers typically get confused about this or are just acting moronic in purpose. They didn't swtich the name from global warming to climate change, they are two different but related things.

Anyone who spent the last few decades hiking in the mountains of the US knows what is up - backpacking season continues to start earlier, the snowpacks are melting out faster, and the glaciers are disappearing. Species that die in bad heat conditions have disappeared below certain elevations (especially pikas).

Why is freezing set to green on their color map? Shouldn't green be like, normal liveable temperatures for this time of year? I guess that wouldn't fit the agenda.

        Anonymous

Yes the overall image is a heat map, but I'm talking specifically about the color map they applied to the temperature data wherein they arbitrarily set green (typically used for 'normal' temperatures) to begin at freezing. Color maps for visualizing data are not some random thing you just apply, any actual scientist absolutely chooses their map and how it's calibrated very purposefully.

          Anonymous

It's just the standard color palette they use on meteorological maps. Any weather service will use the same or something close to that.
          >warm = warm colours like red, orange and yellow
          >cold = cool colours, shades of blue, green
During winter the map will be mostly blue.

still, if you slightly change the scale, the impression it makes is completely different
in OPs map 10ºC is green but 20ºC is yellow, and that doesn't make sense if you see green as good and red as bad as we're used too
if the perfect temperature is 20ºC then that should be green

correct. plants grow out of water, carbon dioxide, and energy (sunlight) (with trace minerals necessary), they turn it into glucose (type of sugar) and oxygen (waste product). to get energy animals and plants do it in reverse, the animals eat the plants to get glucose.

Polar bears are on the decline, they live the vast majority of their lives on the Arctic sea ice where they hunt pinnipeds and cetaceans, and due to the fact that there is less Arctic sea ice every year, their habitat can support fewer and fewer bears each year. Polar bears are being forced south and in some cases are interbreeding with brown bears -- this southward motion leads to an increase in bear-human encounters and can give people the false impression that there are generally more bears.

This is all plainly observable and measurable by people who know what they're doing. You are trolling.
