Initially getting up to do it. I've fallen complacent with letting myself take "an extra rest day bc I'm still a little sore" far too many times
>Initially getting up to do it.
This, but my problem usually is that whenever I wake up it's like my body is in hibernation for up to several hours. I'm all stiff and freezing like I just climbed out of an ice bath. It's the middle of summer and I'm wearing a warm shirt, woolen socks and rolled up under the covers in bed with a heart rate of 43.
The irony is that the best/fastest solution to this is to do something to get my curculation going. Go for a walk. Do some weighted exercises. But I'm freezing too much to be motivated to get up.
Are you a reptile?
I think that's actually fine. If you feel extra tired/sore you can put the workout off by a day and have a much better workout when you feel better.
muscle failure
and then rest days
and then rhabdo
You being a little b***h boy making excuses and taking shortcuts
Mostly that I am not really getting much out of it. I have been lifting on and off since before I was 18 and I am 35 now. I look alright, like slightly better than the average guy, I'm a little stronger than the average guy, that's really it for the most part. Every now and then I get a compliment from other men. I feel good of course, I am comfortable with myself but it's not like it has changed my life in any shape or form. I put in a lot of time and effort to get so little in return. I still do it because it's fun and I want to maintain what I have but I put in a lot less effort now.
The amount of time wasted travelling to and from work. It completely fricks it.
I feel that. Used to have a 45 minute commute both ways. 1.5 hours wasted daily.
convincing myself i need rest days
Chronic health issues. Some days I wake up ready to take on the whole world with a stick. Then days like today, I'm sore, exhausted and feel slightly dissociated with my whole being.
I really love and look forward to my workouts.
Only thing on my way to progress is consistent diet.
I overcome it this way: I'm not being perfectionist and if I fail, I start out again with small steps
biggest obstacles?
heavy weight, on a barbell
I usually overcome them by pushing, pulling or squatting the weight
Trying to find out what fricking split is best for me since there's like 100s of opinions.
Why? They all work and it's fine to do them for like 8-10 weeks and then move on to another one.
I guess it's because I just started lifting. Now it's my 4th week and I did a bro split on the first 2 weeks before even knowing what it is or why it's bad, then I did a push pull split and that seemed to work a bit better. Apparently a push pull split neglects shoulders and back? That's what my friend says when he advised me to just do push, pull, legs, shoulders/back, and abs/cardio.
Idk anymore, I'm just sticking to what worked for me in the second week. (Push-pull split)
Push/pull/legs hits everything
You don’t need a shoulder day, on half of your pushes prioritize shoulder over chest and on pull days do facePULLS.
If you work at least an excercise on every axis (up, down and front-back) you hit everything
Alright thanks man, that's pretty much all I needed to know. I was worried I'd end up neglecting some muscle groups.
There is no best split. It depends on what lifts you're currently progressing and how much frequency you need. You use the one that splits your excercises in such a way as to not interfere with each other while allowing for the right amount of rest time.
>What are your biggest obstacles to working out?
usually I don't want to work out because it takes up a lot of time and you feel like shit during a workout
>how do you overcome them?
haha
i thought that was tom from tom n jeruy
Bunch of niggles that kind of add up:
Busted lower back.
Funky right knee, probably stems from a dislocation I suffered when I was 15.
Something fricked up with my right arm from years of vidyaing and playing guitar with bad posture. It's a mix of tennis elbow, iffy rotator cuff and several muscles 'popping' all the time, specially triceps but also delt and brachialis.
I cycle, swim and do baby-tier dumbbell shit at home but I haven't hit the gym in years. Whenever my back is not too fricky I do goblet squats.
A physical job that includes heavy lifting and about 20k steps a day. Constantly sore but need the money. Thought the extra activity would be nice since I skimp on cardio but this job is sucking the life force out of me.
Just one more year and I graduate uni tho bros. We persist.
gl man, hope you're building your portfolio/ resume/ skills so you can stop wage slaving the second you graduate. That was my mistake when i graduated and I'm currently playing catchup.
Taken gym equipments
Got them runner nipples, started bleeding from my nipps mid excercise. Gotta find a fix, was thinking about a compression shirt. First I need to wait 7 days till my nipps are healed up again. Thankfully I can still lift weights no problem but no cardio for a week.
Can't you just put tape on them?
I am so lazy that I can count on one hand the number of showers I’ve taken in the last month.
>how to overcome
Do doctors still prescribe meth?
Only if you're a 9 year old kid who can't sit still for 8 hours.
eating like shit (cuz poor), shoulder impingement, varicose veins, lack of equipment
Depression is the biggest blocker. I try to push through.
The fact that I don't to live anymore. Can't outlift these thoughts anymore
Currently it shitposting here that's keeping me from my gains.
Being a newbie, seeing all of the conflicting opinions on IST and not knowing where to start and what's right or wrong
To provide context, I'm following this:
https://stronglifts.com/5x5
But it's confusing seeing people on here who are doing a lot more exercises and more than 3 times a week
And the constant back and forth about what food to eat, the proper amount of reps and sets to do
It leaves my head spinning
>But it's confusing seeing people on here who are doing a lot more exercises and more than 3 times a week
Did any of them post body?
Wage cucking
It just seems pointless. Even with muscles i will still look like shit because of bad genes and ugly face. I worked out for 2 years and recently completely given up on gym abd improving myself. This life is a waste, waiting for another one.
