because most of the shit that he peddles is complete bullshit
TRUE anti-aging is a shortcut to getting cancer
the anti-aging he's doing is mild life extension, not anti-aging. there's no way to extend your life beyond what you would have died at in a vacuum. he's really just minimizing oxidative and CMR insult on the body.
wnt, shh, hedgehog, and notch lay out your extremely explicit body plan. if you start genuinely fricking with telomerase, HDAC, and DNMT1 and DNMT3A, you will get cancer.

he honestly looks like every 50 year old triathlete my parents knew that had a heart attack at like 57

basically I'll have to give you a crash course in epigenetics:
basically your genes are regulated by several things:
          >physical promoter proximity
this is both longitudinal and 3D. Longitudinal-wise, a closer promoter leads to a more-expressed gene. proteins called CTCF and Cohesins can also "loop" DNA to bring the promoter closer to the gene. if chromatin is tightly packed, it can't be accessed by RNA Misc and thus expressed.
          >DNA methylation
Methylated DNA in general doesn't get transcribed. post-embryonic DNA methylation is done by DNA methyltransferases (DNMT1 and DNMT3a).
          >histone methylation/acetylation
Histones are somewhat complicated, but the simple answer is that in general methylation closes the chromatin into a tightly packed configuration, while acetylation opens it up.
at any given time, histone methyltransferases and deacetylases are opening and closing various locales of the chromatin to stop or start transcription based on the demands of the cell

Next, your actual body plan is determined by some very important genes and gene groups like wnt (wingless), hedgehog, sonic hedgehog, and notch.
Basically these genes get turned on and off, and the time, place, and context that they get turned off in determines the fate of the cell. Once the cell has been given a fate, alteration of that fate is extremely oncogenic (literally the first phase of a carcinoma, epithelial-mesenchymal transition or EMT)

Once your cell has been given a fate, the hayflick limit determines that line's lifespan, which is indirectly related to telomeres. Telomeres are shortened at each division of a cell. Cellular senescence is a planned process because with each division, mutations accumulate. If senescence weren't a factor, a cell would, over a long enough timespan, accumulate enough missense and deletion mutations to experience onco-conversion into cancer.

so the question remains: how do we reverse aging
the answer is, we don't. It's fundamentally nearly impossible without something like an ideal RNA-sized nanomachine in every living cell.

to reverse aging, you would essentially need to know what the "clean version" of your DNA is, then for every single cell in the body, simultaneously correct all transcription errors ever introduced, while reverting the cells to their original t=0 telomere length at the time of full differentiation.
If you weren't to do that, you'd get cancer, either immediately or soon after.

Basically, at the end of the day, interrupting the delicate balance of your personal biology is a terrible idea.

even the shit that he does for "life extension" is pretty likely to cause him cancer or otherwise frick with his body. I've heard that he takes estrogen, which is a huge problem because for every problem you try to solve with an exogenous compound, there are about 10X as many unrelated signaling cascades that you're fricking with without knowing the effect.
he's also on metformin, which is just moronic if you're not diabetic since you're fricking with the insulin-glucagon axis for no reason

Why would he increase chance of cancer when he is putting autophagy into overdrive?

              Anonymous

also taking extra collagen like he does if you're not collagen deficient is just moronic and a waste of money
the only thing you can do for your skin is avoid sunlight, stay hydrated, and avoid putting too much shit on it or being stressed in general.
collagen deposition in the skin ECM is mediated by your fibroblasts. eating more collagen doesn't do anything, it just causes you to shit out more collagen. your skin fibroblasts are by and large inactive unless TGF-B is cleaved from its latency complex by something like a skin wound, and even then, fibroblasts will return the skin to its original condition rather than lay down additional collagen.

Why would he increase chance of cancer when he is putting autophagy into overdrive?

              that doesn't even mean anything
What does putting autophagy into overdrive look like?
autophagy is demand-driven, not something that you can increase unless you're undergoing heightened apoptosis for some reason. And if you've increase apoptosis, you're simply running out the senescence clock on the progenitor cells that are replacing that cell that just underwent apoptosis.
autophagy is just your dendritic cells and macrophages cleaning up apoptosis products. If it's not happening at an appropriate rate, you've got bigger problems than life extension.

literally the only way to increase "autophagy" is to
              a) cause more cells to undergo programmed cell death
              b) cause more cells to be directed to commit suicide by CD8+ T Cells

              Neither are particularly beneficial

You can cause autophagy through exercise and calorie restriction tho

                Anonymous

any kind of metabolic insult causes autophagy, but it's not a "good" or "bad" process
having a rate of autophagy less than another rate of autophagy is neither bad nor good. it's completely agnostic and is more just a descriptive state of the body.
Look at it this way: if I throw out my food before the expiration date, is that good or bad? or have I just simply thrown out food?

again, autophagy is just the process of cleaning out unneeded cell products. Your cells do it every day, regardless of your input.
autophagy is the polar opposite of protein synthesis. if a cell is undergoing autophagy, it is not synthesizing additional proteins. production of autophagocytic lysosomes is directly inhibited by mTOR, which promotes an anabolic growth state. autophagy is promoted by FOXO3, which promotes apoptosis because it is upregulated by oxidative stress.
If you're expressing FOXO3 and not expressing mTOR, you're in a catabolic state.
Locally, muscle strain from exercise alone is enough to produce the necessary autophagy of damaged cellular components.

That makes no sense dude. Autophagy literally extends lifespan in animal models

                >Autophagy literally extends lifespan in animal models
                source

                >for every problem you try to solve with an exogenous compound, there are about 10X as many unrelated signaling cascades that you're fricking with without knowing the effect.

                what's your take on fin/dut?

risk-benefit ratio doesn't exist for me there
                hair loss doesn't kill you
it's also not DHT, but sensitivity to DHT in hair cells of the scalp. ablating DHT isn't a good idea just to stop hair loss. Eventually somebody will come up with some kind of competitive scalp androgen receptor antagonist, but until then we're SOL.
MPB is multifactorial, though. consider an antifungal if you have irritation where your hair loss is occurring

three biggest things you can do that no one will ever do:
caloric restriction. Try not eating for a day or two every week or so.
Get out of cities, they significantly reduce your lifespan.
get a book, learn and do the exercises: qigong teachings of a taoist immortal. English translation of 8 exercises taught by a man who can be proven to have been at least 150+, and according to the 8 generations of families he had fostered actually much older, but still spry and young. Fakes his death after getting too much attention from diplomats and such, returns to the mountains. The people he taught all lived to be 120+, all ended up dying in like mountain climbing accidents. They all said that it was because a) doing these exercises daily, b) caloric restriction, and c) getting out of cities and public life.
