What did you start at on the bench press?

What did you start at on the bench press? I'm a heavier guy (90 kg/200 lbs) new to weightlifting and could only do 1pl8 for 3x5. Just wondering what other people's baselines were.

Anon you have to lower your weight drastically or else you're going to long term damage your body. I was around 200lbs when I started doing bench press, and I started out with just the bar. You've gotta let your body get used to the form, get used to controlling the bar rather than just moving it. More importantly, your muscles can outpace your joints when you're new. Even if your muscles can handle 1pl8, you will be killing your baby joints if you start with that kind of weight. I have a joint in my sternum that I can crack like a knuckle, and I couldn't do that until I started bench press. You've got to go slow, annoyingly slow, or your muscles will overpower your joints and tendons, and you'll be like the HammerTech test pilot from Iron Man 2

I started at 1 plate but it was easy as frick so I moved to 2 plate which required some effort but did it for reps and worked from there.
I'm a big dude and had been doing all sorts of pushup varieties and dips for years beforehand and also OHP which I got up to a 2 plate 1RM before ever benching so I guess it doesn't really count as starting tho.

I was 60 kg when I started,my first routine was 16x12x10x8 starting with 10kg and adding 5 kg each set.
Now I do 4x10 starting with 40~50 kg and ending around 70~90 kg

I managed to bench my body weight which would be around 60 kg at that time.

But I did wrestle and do calisthenics

Skinny guy but I did calisthenics for a couple months before going to the gym.

First I remember doing was 125 for a 3x6 at probably around 140 bodyweight

24 y/o 5'7 overweight 200lbs just started lifting a month ago since the first time in 7 years. Bulking for 12-16 weeks to take advantage of beginner gains before I cut hopefully 10% BF in 6months by June. Around 25-27% atm.

1 month ago, I could only bench 90-100lbs.
Now I'm benching 1 pl8 each for 3 sets. First time in my life. Hit 140 today for a set. Feeling absolutely great body wise as even though I'm overall weak and still chubby, I'm seeing gains and know I'm on the right path.

Now need to figure out how to maintain as much strength/muscle when I cut.
Is 10% BF possible inside 6-8months?

My first time, I weighed ~138 lbs at 5'11 and benched 95 lbs for 3x6. I'd been doing some calisthenics for a year or two previously.

I was about 70kg when I started and could also bench 1pl8 for 3x5. I stall a lot on bench tho. It took like 8 more months for me to achieve 2pl8 bench compared to some of my friends who had a lower starting baseline.
