They obviously don't eat junk food and they avoid high-sodium foods.

There are anecdotal stories of Usain Bolt gorging himself on McNuggets

Though that's probably just due to the fact that he's such a freak I think he can get away with it

I would think that most of them just hit the genetic lottery with a super high BMR. You have to remember that they are burning massive amounts of calories when they run.

When I ran/played soccer in high school, I would sometimes eat 3 Whopper meals by myself after a tough practice, and I was super lean. Granted, my being 16 surely had something to do with that, but still.

Bolt only ate mcdonalds during the entire Beijing Olympics because it was the only food he could 100% be sure of the quality control on

Powerlifting LARPers drastically underestimate the caloric output of HIIT. Pic rel is 60 minutes muay thai, exclusively pad work.

Pro fighters in thailand do this for 4 hours plus a 10km run in the morning and a 5km run in the evening.

Full body strength routines feel more taxing on the body than an hour of HIIT.

This was 20 mins lifting i did just as a comparison with 20 minutes liss. They work out roughly the same caloric output. A greater proportion of the energy is derived from fat for both these avenues of exercise but the total caloric output is significantly lower. So it ends up a wash for total fat burned either way
Tl;dr aerobic and anaerobic exercise are different

I'm unfamiliar with 'POLAR' - Does that use one of those heart rate monitors to track calorie use?

Correct. Chest strap. I checked it against other brands and a couple S&C coaches i know to ensure it's legit info from it

If an hour of padwork wasn't an option, what would you do to maximise caloric output?

I suspect there's more to the McNugg story, but it's also worth remembering that people on gear don't have to eat as well as naturals. Plus, the guy is a freak, as you mentioned.

Sodium is the most important electrolyte, it is like water, absolutely essential for athletes. Low sodium diet is a horrendous idea.

      Anonymous

moron...the only reason the doctors tell the common populace to avoid too much sodium is because they are so sedentary that they hardly excrete any of the electrolytes they carry.

Meanwhile anyone doing more than 2hr of intensive physical labor or activity will need to replenish their electrolytes as they will be sweated out, or mobilized during the effort.

Maybe you don't need minerals but athletes sure do, and consume ''healthy'' quantities for their lifestyle.

You have to eat a lot, preferably fast energy carbs or your metabolism will slow down to compensate and you will not have energy to maintain doing workouts everyday, end up skinny-fat.

    1. Their diet isn't static. It changes depending of their intensity.
    2. They don't eat junk food so they avoid bloating and adding extra weight.
    3. They are usually young people so they can literally eat like crap and still have abs.
