I live in a pretty low cost "shitty area" and even here the average house price has soared to like $200k+ for a shitty old hovel that needs work. Just a few years ago you could buy the same for around $60k.

Nta, I enjoy rowing but kind of agree its a meme.
I used to use it as cardio to finish out back day, but it basically does nothing.
Maybe a bit of a trap pump, but that's it.

It's the bouldering of cardio machines, in that you think it's gonna be a strength based exercise but in order to "do it right" you have to use "technique" and keep a steady pace instead of varying based on your own whims. Basically nerds ruining exercise, as usual.

Don't even get me started on the resistance setting on a rower which article after article screams isn't a difficulty slider. Whys it more difficult then, homosexuals?
They're just looking for a way to feel smart about staying at 4/10 and doing a pathetic 27 strokes a minute for a half hour.

Rowing is cool, doing it properly is not.

What the frick are you on. 27 strokes per minute isn’t pathetic. Neither is 14 or 30 or 37 (if you know what you’re doing). What’s important is your 500 split and your heartrate. Post your 500 or 2k time, on whatever “difficulty” you want. I bet I’ve beaten it.

            Anonymous

To add on to this, most really good college rowers or Olympic athletes or whatever the frick will do lots of steady state training well under a 27

        Anonymous

Rowing is only good for home gym, if you don't have much room
Elliptical is better low intensity steady state
Assault bike is better high intensity interval training
Rowing is convenient because you can do both with one machine, but it does not excel at either

assault bike can do it all. it can also be low intensity steady state. it''s easy to do just make sure to maintain 120-150W for low intensity for 40 mins and u get the same effect

    got 40 mins?

all i do is this bike and pullups and i make massive gains

        Anonymous

        cba just go try it.
but it work with wind resistance, the harder u go, the harder resistance. so you can actually burn urself completely in 20 seconds if u go all in. it's unique like that. anyway u will need earphones to watch something on it cuz it's loud and u can't aim it at your tv. or it will flip it with the wind it produces

I have it next to my computer and I watch stuff on my phone/tablet and do 40 mins daily and nothing come close the burns it will give and therefore gains.

it work this muscles while burning tons of calories:

        forearms
        lats
        chest
        abs
        hamstrings
        quads

so u will still need shoulders to be 100% covered

keep in mind i am going for body like ronaldo and not like arnolds so this is not bulk master machine.
but i am pretty much already there, just need to cut 4% more body fat

if u are fat and u use this to for weight loss, u will come out shredded

      >Does your pedaling basically power the fan?
you can peddle and use your arms, just arms, or just peddle, the peddles and arms are tied together and linked to the fan. The faster you go the more the fan resists. The shitty pic you can see you can rest your feet on the pegs and just use your arms. You will be surprised how fast your arms get tired with just arms. It took me about a month before I could do 30 minutes with just arms. If you want to burn max calories you need arms and legs, but just arms is great for arm conditioning. More gyms should have these bikes

You can overload your system much higher than you can running, and for a much longer time. It's not like a bicycle (those are designed to minimize effort).
If you have never used one, you can genuinely make yourself throw up in under a minute from exercising too hard.

These are great if you know how to use them. With the bike you can do arm only, which I do a lot, then you can also do HIIT profiles to improve high output and recovery while still going. I do this for MX training, a sprint lap and a fast lap but still able to recover the next sprint if needed. Races are between 20 and 45 minutes depending on format. The ellyptical machine is great low impact cardio. I used to run a lot but repepative injuries to ankles, knees and hips from skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking and mx, and I am old, make this important low impact cardio option. I wish I started using these long ago.

Are you buying commercial grade gym equipment from commercial suppliers? You are an absolute moron if you do so. Buy them from gyms. You can easily get one that's basically new (needs a screw or two replaced), retails for 2k AUD, and has 2500km on it for around 300-400 aud.

half mile sprint on an assault bike is BRUTAL. When I was a noob in the gym I had a trainer. He had me do a half mile sprint on the assault bike. Hey saved it for the end of the workout because he said "after this, you aint gonna be able to do anything else." And boy was he right! The amount of lactic acid buildup is so painful, I've never felt a burn and throbbing pain like that from working out in my life, and not even now, 6 years later. After, I literally fell to the floor, trying to catch my breath, and my quads absolutely throbbing. I ended up going to my car after the workout and passed out for 20 minutes.
