You should tighten your glutes throughout the entire exercise. I used to have an issue with this, but I started feeling it a lot more in my ass when i made sure to tighten my ass throughout the entire exercise.

Listen, you have the padding too high. You want this to be primarily a hamstring and glute exercise, if you have the padding around your waist or higher you're severely limiting the amount of hip hinging you can do and is instead making the lower back the weak point.

lactic acid actually helps prevent soreness and fatigue, it's muscle damage, not lactic acid burn.
