    I've never had this and I'm a fatty who set foot in the gym for the first time in January 2023. One of us is doing something wrong. Are you doing them with weights? A plate or a dumbbell? After 3 sets of 12 with a 22kg dumbbell I feel great, feel like I'm standing up straight properly, like I'm walking around with some invisible lumbar support

    You should tighten your glutes throughout the entire exercise. I used to have an issue with this, but I started feeling it a lot more in my ass when i made sure to tighten my ass throughout the entire exercise.
    And yeah, of course you'll feel sore in your lower back after doing an exercise that is heavily dependent on your lower back.

    It’s a lower back exercise so that means you were working your lower back muscles hard which produced lactic acid and made your muscles sore. Possibly also indicates your lower back muscles are pretty weak and untrained.

      Listen, you have the padding too high. You want this to be primarily a hamstring and glute exercise, if you have the padding around your waist or higher you're severely limiting the amount of hip hinging you can do and is instead making the lower back the weak point.

      Also brace like any compound exercise

        That's the point anon. You can do multiple excercises with the roman chair. If you want to specifically target the lower back, hyperextentions are great. If you want to target hamstrings, put a barbell on your back and the pad lower.

    you're using your spinal erectors to flex and extend your spine, when you should keep your spine neutral and static.
    the exercise is supposed to be a hip hinge, not a back flex.

    DONT do it like this femoid, you have to set the pads lower in order to allow the hip joint to move freely. right now, you are probably rounding your lower back excessively because the pads are too high up, and its fricking your shit up

    it means you're hyper-extending - lifting up too high.
    try tucking in your chin towards your chest while doing it and focus on feeling your glutes and hams during sets.
