The real answer is that its the easiest discipline to get into besides cardio and calisthenics. Oly lifting will require an actual oly coach. Strongman is going to require a strongman gym, which I have never seen in my life. But there is always at least 1 gym that is only 10-20 minutes away from where everyone lifts and its so easy to just start learning how to powerlift.

Olympic weightlifting is power not strength(paradoxically), it also has a skill barrier. For strongman, it isn’t easy to get into, very few gyms have the equipment and there isn’t a standardized method to train and get stronger at it

What about Olympic lifting requires coaching? The movements seem fairly straightforward. I do the clean and jerk all the time. For no particular reason.

Its an access issue. Most people lift in commercial gyms and can bench, deadlift and squat. Therefore they compete in those lifts. Until recently, access to olympic lifting equipment was rare. Strongman was also super niche until recently. Reason why the vast majority of strongman competitors were primarily powerlifters until recent. Young lifters dont understand how limited gym culture was until about 15 years ago.

Yeah - a barbell, bumpers and deadlift platform/rubber floor are super rare in a commercial gym
Olympic lifting and strongman require special equipment that most commercial gyms don't have like a platform and bumper plates that you can drop without the staff (and other members) yelling at you.
And strongman requires you to be a fat fuck which is a big negative.

Cause its safer and easier to train. Not as in easy as how hard it is to push but in how complicated the movements are and figuring out how to progress
progressing on dumbbels only is way slower than barbells imo, you need a good balance of both
