What level of fitness should someone be at if they want to take boxing lessons? eg ideal 5km time, ideal max pull ups, ideal max push ups, ideal plank time etc

    If you can shadowbox for 2 mins 3 times without gassing out, you're good. You're starting out, you'll get the cardio as you improve.

      don't even bother with this advice, you haven't taken lessons so you're just gonna be flailing like a moron. You don't know how to move or throw a punch and can't visualize them coming back. Just go take lessons, the coach will understand if you are coming from a sedentary lifestyle because boxing is something a lot of people do to get in shape. Don't be that guy that "wants to start but wants to get in shape first." You get multiple round boxing cardio by boxing. Get lessons, have no ego, don't try to go to fast or hit too hard. Form and movement are everything and need to be learned right.

    Im a 30 year old fat weakling and I've been boxing since march. I do get fricking mogged by all the athletic teenagers during sparring, cant do push-ups. idgaf, I like doing it so I continue. Dont be afraid to try, just approach it humbly and you will do ok.

      be like this guy. Out of shape guys come into the gym all the time, but no one gives them a hard time. It's like any other gym everyone starts somewhere there's no reason to be insecure about it. You will probably waste or at least inefficiently use any time you spend trying to get in shape for it yourself, the coaches know how to get you in shape.

    You can start from anywhere. Join a boxing gym, it can be costly but worth it. The typical workout is 30 minutes of intense cardio (sprints, box jumps, abs, bodyweight exercises), then 30 minutes of bag work. Its brutal but you will adapt. 3-5 times a week and you’ll be acclimated very fast.

    Boxing is fighting, not lifting. If you dont wanna look like an idiot, work on anaerobic cardio. But you will look like an idiot and a pussy anyway, cause you cant box yet. You will flinch at every punch and throw shit girl punches yourself, cause you are new

    Any fitness level OP. Boxing, just like MMA has weight classes. A Heavyweight fighter and a Bantamweight fighter are going to have way different maxes, cardio levels, etc.

    Doesn't matter. Boxing is boxing, other stuff is other stuff. Start boxing at any level and you get better, don't wait for some pseudo argument.

    I wish i was like 5 yrs old again so i could uber myself to a black boxing gym in the city and just train all day. By the time i would be in high school id have been a chad and beat up kids easy

      You're not going to compete, but it's great for fitness and learning to punch real good.
      A good gym will have you do everything the young guys do at an adjusted level, including sparring. Go for it, it's fun but just be protective of your hands. Wrap them well and don't punch with power

    I’m not an expert or anything but I went after just doing weights semi frequently and I was really bad on my first session. Was so faint I had to step outside genuinely thought I was going to shit myself at one point. But I kept going after that and just adapted to the work. I’d say it’s better to just go and let them train you as long as you aren’t morbidly obese or something.

    also these gloves look like shit get gloves from an actual glove company that knows how to properly make wrist and knuckle protection. I got a pair of sanabul 12 oz gel gloves as my first and they were like 30 bucks on amazon.
