No, but there are plenty of good machines, cables are good too. If you start to stall on a barbell or db lift, doing a similar motion on a machine/cable and progressing on that for a bit will help with the original lifts you were doing
Just came back to the gym and had been avoiding anything with legs besides sprinting stairs for years since the covid shut down.
Tall so squats are a PITA and went for hack squats but noticing that the numbers for my components on machines (quad raise, hamstring curl, glute kick) are going up but struggling to keep legs still on the hack squat.
Doing hacks because tom platz liked em but I'm starting to see why he was so big on squats themselves.
Was thinking of just doing a shit ton of hexbar DLs or maybe goblet squats while having some plates under my heels so I can reach depth.

Kinda patterned my last year off of this generally. Stopped chasing gainz once I reached a nice level of muscle for my frame. Stopped trying to pinpoint 1700-1800 cals per day with 180g protein and nothing but chicken breast, ground meat, rice, sweet potatoes, and veggies. Started doing more HIIT cardio sessions. Use kettlebells for functional strength and stability. More rest days with just active recovery exercises and walking. Just generally stopped my obsession with being a natty gainz goblin.
These are all conclusions that I came to also. I wouldn't really call any of these controversial, it's just opposed to what this specific board's lifting culture seems to pursue

99% of the programs/diets/tricks/info out there is just people trying to take your money or absolute cope for not doing the work.
The information relevant for people to get leaner, put on LBM, get stronger/more muscular, could be a one page handout.
You should eat a well balanced diet from many whole food sources including meat and dairy. Cutting refined carbs, added sugars, and liquid calories out of your diet is the most efficient way to cut.

I say it because from personal experience switching to a gym that only does classes made it much easier for me to be consistent with actually exercising. having to find or come up with a workout routine setting up a spreadsheet or an app to track all of it is boring as fuck and demoralizing and makes working out a tedious chore. When I go to a class there's no waiting around for equipment I don't have to track anything I'd simply show up do the exercise the trainer says to do, and go home.

Cutting is the restriction of food. Denying yourself things you like. Bulking is an excess of things you like. Not to mention, you can speed up bulking to a degree and it creates new muscles. All cutting does is make you feel like shit and lose fat slowly for months on end.

Not everyone trying to lose bf is a fucking whale, once you get below 20% it gets excessively harder to lose weight. It's easy when you're 28%bf because you can cut 1000 calories a day a not be hungry. Now you're 17% and can only cut 600 calories a day at most and are hungry at night, AND it takes longer to lose the weight due to the limits of TDEE. Sure you can do excess cardio but not everyone is capable of it, and even then it's far easier to cut 400 calories out of a diet than run 4 miles every day to burn it off.
To top it off, if you accidentally overeat by mis-measuring a meal or fail and binge you undo progress completely, you can easily undo a week of progress with a single binge. Unlike bulking where you can just make up for a day by eating extra/less the following day and not have it impact your progress.

Focus on "perfect form" is retarded and often counterproductive for many exercises. Going ass to grass on squats is not necessary, not os locking out shoulders on pull ups. I'd say the biggest fitness redpill is not everyone responds positively to popular excersizes. I for example can deadlift 3x a week but if I squat with any regularity I wind up with some kind of discomfort. I check my form 100x, took video, lighted weight to 1/3rd of what I'm capable of yet it doesn't treat my body well. I can still squat 405 for a max, just deadlifting 500 lbs makes me feel healthier than squatting. So I just don't do it except with friends.
