IST in its best years was a site dominated by late gen xers and millenials who came here for shits and gigs. They would actually come here to have fun discussions and just be silly, which is why the memes and greentexts had a lighter air to them and didn't carry this doomer mentality. During the 2010s the gen xers and millenials who actually contributed to discussions and weren't complete failures in life started having families and stopped browsing leaving only the absolute doomer failures. Combine these failure millenials with zoomers who have pretty much been raised on doomer mentality, and you have this powder keg for an echo chamber of "woe is me" bucket of crabs pity party.

Men make fun of their fat friends out of love and the desire for them to better themselves. Just like mental health, you can't fix it for other people, they have to decide to do it themselves. Letting your guy friends know that they are gross and unhealthy through humor is a way to motivate them. It let's them know that you believe in them, that you see a better version of them as achievable, and that you wish they would have the motivation to fix their shit.
This doesn't apply to women obviously, who can't help but tear each other down to make themselves feels superior.
