There are two schools of thought. One is that the belt is an integral part of how you lift, so you should always use one as you become used to using one. The other is that a belt is a tool of last resort that can help you eek an extra 2-4% out of your lifts but otherwise should not be used.

I don’t use a belt unless I’m either very fatigued or doing a very heavy rep.

Unless you have a back injury please don’t use those homosexual massive ass belts.

ASAP. It just supports your brace, like those seated row machines where your chest is facing the pad. It does nothing but help protect you from hernias.

It replaces your brace partly. You just breath in and hold it then do the lift. Better learn how to brace properly.
You only use waist-belts in sports where you have to brace for a long time or you do a bunch of other things that can distract you from active bracing.

"supports" your brace the way a smith machine "supports" your lifts
