I had a brief period during which my breakfast consisted of sardines on toasted sourdough and a glass of red wine

arguably pretty good probiotic profile of a meal, regardless if it's breakfast. I raise you my ''sober'' version.

      >pomegranate or cherry juice with mother (a good antioxidant substitute for red wine, the more tart or tannin-tasting, the more antioxidants basically as a rule of thumb)
      >550ml of iced green tea with dash of lemon juice (to offset diuretic effects of coffee and tea, add max water in this one)
      >shot of espresso
      >cup of miso soup or bone broth depending what I feel like
      > glass of probiotic filmjolk (basically swedish kefir, fermented milk/yoghurt drink)

Other drinks with good replacement for beer's probiotic profile :
      >pickle juice
      >kombucha (apple crisp flavor is essentially same as cider flavor, try it) which is just fermented yeast and apple juice but with ethanol removed.

I also eat a lot of fermented yeast products like sourdough bread, certain cheeses.
Go easy on the red wine brother, otherwise keep doing what you're doing.

The amount of alcoholics on IST always surprises me. Then again, most people who post here probably don't even lift so I guess it shouldn't, but like damn.

Alcohol is anti-/fit/. All it provides are carbs with little to no nutrients. Your body has to work hard to filter out alcohol and that disrupts the production valuable proteins in your liver. There is literally no scenario where you'd be physically better off by drinking any amount of alcohol.

We don’t drink it because we think it’s good for us

We drink it because it makes us feel nice and we are addicted

      >production valuable proteins in your liver
Explain this please. Is it impacting my running and weight lifting?

Alcohol is removed from your body through the production of specialized proteins that break down alcohol molecules. Whenever your liver is producing these alcohol cleanup proteins, it produces fewer muscle building proteins.

I assume my colleagues here are similar to myself. We're in good shape and focus on being healthy, but we still have enough awkwardness to still post on this godforsaken website. I drink a lot just to alleviate social anxiety and taking that little edge off helps me operate. I can talk to girls, be social at work etc after getting to around 0.08.

Whenever you tea drinkers make posts like this I can do nothing but picture some mouth breather correcting his glasses after passionately tapping away on his keyboard about how bad alcohol is because you’ll make 5% fewer gains a year if you drink moderately once a week

I used to work in a starbucks drive thru and most of the people who ordered our iced drink teas were marginally better looking than those who ordered the milk-based drink.
I'm talking it was either young Stacies or that italian fitness influencer looking guys, some of them were regulars and they were perma-shredded year round.

I also worked in a bar and the people who ordered non-alcoholic drinks were almost always in better shape that those who didn't.

You're definitely picturing tea drinkers wrong...

I seriously don't know how bad is Starbucks , but I do trust to some point every cafe/bistro that serve their own made "herbal iced drinks/tea" or wienertails over any larger chain slash supermarket shit even tho I miss Snapples green tea....
Tasty stuff >inb4 my sugar , not all of them add and you can ask.

They have to get days worth of "publicity training" each year because they usually end up with gangbang sex tapes coming out or rape claims from broke b***hes that throw themselves at them in bars and then demand a $150k payday settled out of court the next day.

if you can hold off on your urges, don't eat some food instead. You will get addicted to the 'fun' factor until it is no longer fun and you feel depressed without it.

I think alcohol is a drug that supresses stress but doesn't remove the root cause. The whole 'social bonding' alcohol experience is, I think, filling the gap of modern non-loving relations we have. Instead of bonding through mutual entwinement of morals and lifestyles, people seek to bond through mutual self-destruction; for alcohol dissolves boundaries.

For these moments of social boundary dissolvement, the crypto alcoholic modern people can feel the primal closeness and social union that is neccesary for the happy soul.

Alcohol is not a substitution for real community love, it's not your tribe. You are supressing your feelings so they do not haunt you away from your undignified lives. If you did not drink or engage in similar vices, you'd be ostracized, lonely, but you'd be yourself. You'd be true to your nature. Cut the alcoholic parasite from your life.

      wrong

Everyone is aware of their inhibitions and it is 'liberating' and enjoyable to experience yourself and others with a little less inhibition. It's risky to say or do things you wouldn't normally do, but in an environment where you and others are consuming alcohol, you can get away with it. There is a specific time and place for certain behaviors, and in most cases, "acting yourself out" without restraint has no place in everyday life. You can experience the same thing without alcohol when you're with people you trust and enjoy being with, and those are also great bonding experiences, but they're just two similar but different things. That said, if you only have these social interactions when everyone is drinking, then you're actually depriving yourself of deeper connections.

People have always drank alcohol you muppet. In fact people used to drink way more alcohol in the past and even wrongfully thought it was healthy. Why? Because it tastes good and makes you feel good.

True, they drank it like a water substitute, even gave it to kids and thought it was healthy for mothers that breastfeed. Then again, at that time the beer contained less alcohol than it does now.

Here in the UK, up until the outbreak of the first world war, (when the licensing laws were changed), it was commonplace to stop at the pub for a pint or two on your way to work in the morning, and again on the way home. In addition, beer carts used to ply their trade outside factory gate at break times
