cause its punching up. nobody ever punches down and talks about how they can lay out some biker or runner. being big and strong is intimidating to most people and likely will frick them up. they also pick bodybuilders cause alot of the time theyre 'slow" and aren't as athletic as lets say a 260 pd NFL player. thats why they do it. so they can kinda act like theyre showing off.

if they fought someone bigger than them, thats fast and athletic. like say an nfl player. theyd probably get knocked out but against some slow gym guy. they can punch up .

they would in a street/mma fight unless the boxer manages a quick hit.

it does matter, but the skill levels are so insanely far apart that it makes practically 0 difference.

It's like saying a random 7 footer who's never played Basketball is better than Steph Curry.
              >But muh 1 foot difference
Well yeah that's obviously a huge advantage doesn't mean the 7 footer is even close to Steph's level

You'd need to be heavyweight and have a big ass upper body to be able to stop someone in their tracks jumping at you with a solid 300lbs and powerlifting meet level lifts.

Punching hard is one thing, transferring all your weight onto one arm and driving through. But against someone really coming at you requires insane strength. Striking is the highest skill cap of all martial arts in terms of what can be done with it, grappling is often resorted to and is rendered useless against someone who outclasses them entirely standing up.

            Anonymous

You can grapple standing up and there is no punch a small man can muster that can consistently one shot someone.
            >I’ll just knock him out
You get one shot at a KO. You might break their jaw but you’ll break your hand. No hand is a lot worse than no jaw

No. Point of chin, solar plexus, eyes, balls. Will work literally every time, just sucker punch them.

Please provide an example. People are always saying that a fighter can go up against someone that's 100lbs heavier than them but I've never seen it happen.

          Anonymous

I don't know any videos of that happening, but I've seen it many times, a light brown belt/black belt can easily tap out a 250lb+ untrained dude with ease. I've seen it happen multiple times.
That's grappling, striking is even more reliant on technique

            Anonymous

With grappling someone might be insanely heavy and impossible to throw around even if you're stronger enough. With striking once you're very strong speed is more important than another 20-60lbs will carry with each punch or kick. And when it comes to kickboxing especially being the same strength same skill, speed will win most times.

Someone really good at striking can close distance and hit you before you realize you're in their range and move in and out much better to wait for an opening. But if the smaller person isn't close enough in size and strength the bigger guy can tank a lot of their shit and it is impossible to overcome given a certain level of skill from the bigger guy.

But yeah fighting has the highest skill ceiling of any sport and anyone can get insanely strong with proper programming and diet so idk why people even argue someone not lifting half of what they could would win or not they should be bulking.

              >With grappling someone might be insanely heavy and impossible to throw around even if you're stronger enough.

It doesn't matter, someone who's untrained won't be able to do anything on the ground, they're not skilled enough, black and brown belts have counters of counters for every move in the book, even if a big dude takes them down it's only a matter of time until they give up top/side positions. And once that happens it's game over.

They say weaker bjj students get better because they can't muscle through techniques, also it's easy to forget what does and doesn't work if someone can punch or kick you in the face from the ground which is an often forgotten rule of ufc, overshadowed by elbows and soccer kicks.

Even wrestlers, who are hardly known to be "soft beats hard" technical aces, can easily demolish untrained lifters who are stronger and heavier than them. Look on YT.

Lifting doesn't prepare you for fighting because it primes the nervous system for slow, grinding strength. What you need is explosive strength. Most track and field guys will have more functional strength for fighting than any powerlifter.

Mma fight is the metric 100%, maybe something more like sandou but instant loss instead of point loss on hitting the ground. Irl you're gonna get 100% soccer kicked so that's why muay Thai and kickboxing is the most realistic if you account for takedowns as an instant win imo.

Average "I do MMA" person is massively insecure and has a permanent chip on their shoulder in all aspects of life. They are also unable to not bring up how they're a heckin' epic fighter that could kill everyone with their bare hands in any fricking conversation. Noobs getting used as ragdolls in MMA/boxing gyms are not uncommon at all. It takes a special kind of unsavoury personality to make hurting other people your hobby.

Meanwhile most big guys that lift are friendly and chill, and will help you with any aspect of lifting if you ask. They don't need to go around telling people how much they lift or how big they are, it's self-evident.

ironically looking big and strong avoids more conflict than trained fighters do, which if you ask any reputable self defense expert they'll tell you that avoiding conflict is a better goal. Being a 160lb killing machine is only useful if you actually want to beat people up by surprise. Being 250lb of bodybuilder in a tense situation is more likely to prevent a fight in the first place. Unless of course the guy looking to start a fight is an insecure "fighter" anyway.

Because its all about looks, respect and social status. Bodybuilders and powerlifters look big and strong, and therefore get treated in social situations like they are strong and tough. While those who train combat sports dont usually look like much, especially while in clothes. Given the fact that those who train fighting sports are usually naturally violent/dominant and want to capitalize on their talent/dominate social situations or those who are immature and were disadvantaged by bigger kids in elementary school and are compensating, they want the respect which comes with power so they have to stress that they can beat in a fight those who look like they can beat them

Lifters could easily outfight any weaker smaller fighter. The fighter hides behind weight classes and rules.
I have never seen a weaker guy defeat a significantly stronger/bigger guy in Greco or freestyle.

Well most fighters are moronic, especially at lower levels. They are too dimwitted to realize in most cases humans can spe cialize in one sport. If the "fighter" went into a bodybuilding comp he would lose, if a football player went 1 on 1 in basketball with a basketball player he would lose, etc. This cross discipline dimwittery is another form of clown world banality.

In the fricked up mind like that of insecure fighter they say to themselves that bodybuilders only want to appear violent and thats why bodybuilders train, not realizing their own projection of insecurities and fear onto someone purely out of their muscles

Its a power and dominance thing, most antisocial people are also secretly homosexual (which explains how ho osexuality is simply a power and dominance thing)
