When you've got nothing genuinely valuable left in this world, your youth is the only thing keeping you alive. Young people can't afford to own a home anymore, many have been conditioned into thinking that starting a family is a burden, so they drift away from rent payment to rent payment, dead end job to dead end job, only being able to handle the loss of meaning by the comfort of still having time ahead of them. I emptied out my savings last fall so I could finish paying off my student loans (had 10k left) and put the rest of it (another 10k) towards paying off my car early so I can be done with it. I only make 75k a year, and have some pretty expensive hobbies like collecting vinyl/cd's/cassettes and doing gunpla.
Yet the only debt I have is the aforementioned car, and I've whittled that down from 35k when I bought it summer 2022 to 5k now, and will be done paying it off this spring. I've also been able to save up 10k for my savings since emptying it last fall. I don't understand how people can be so bad with their own money. Those numbers must be misleading.
