Nah he looked pretty good after the cut, then he got into his roooooonning phase and lost all of his gains not even kidding

I thought he said he was fine with the way he looks except his upper body, which he found lagging? At least, that's what I got from his past videos.

for me it was realizing nobody should care about exceptional strength levels unless you are planning to set a world record

going to the gym in this era is 90% mental illness. some people lift their whole lives or for years still being totally off the frickin edge. getting percent leaner here or there getting big triceps constantly obsessing over small things like calves or big numbers on lifts its a whole lot of mental illness. just build your body and feel good dont go off the deep end

My lifts all suck, but I love the feeling I have when I'm finished my workout. Just feel much happier and more energetic.

exactly man my lifts are completely fine and would be seen as extraordinary to the average person but to the completely off the edge delusional people who watch a bunch of roided up dudes who literally have their lives totally revolve around the gym my lifts would prob be seen as weak. ive built a good body naturally and constantly get comments from normal people about my body. i love going to the gym and i love how it makes me feel and im a really adhd person but the gym is one thing i can fully lock into.
im sure ur lifts cant be that bad

I like Alan but after following him for what must be almost ten years now I've realized he's very insecure and easily influenced by anyone smarter than him. This is not necessarily a bad thing, it's wise to listen to someone who's more knowledgeable, but in his case he really seems like he was never able to insert himself in any particular team, and since the barbell medicine/starting strength he's been constantly rebranding and parroting whoever is using his platform for visibility at the time.

This is my main gripe with him as well. His channel always had a "blind leading the blind" vibe to it.

And you gotta wonder how he got popular in the first place

I mean he's fairly affable and likable, plus his entrepreneurship is actually admirable and can be inspiring. Being somewhat simple minded and not afraid to talk about his mistakes and short coming also played in its favor. I'm glad he's successful, I'm just sort of disappointed in never seeing him reach any kind of "authority" status in the community iykwym

He started making videos just right around the time R*ddit was starting to take off in the early 2010s. His look, humor and SS minimalism also appeals to the usual fat redditor at the time who didn't wanna do more in the gym.
Now fitness internet is more nuanced and some people are starting to realize that they only wanna look good but not necessarily chase strength numbers and that the training for those two have differences.

This really puts into words something I've felt for a while
