Why did lifting weights as a hobby seem to skip millennials? Boomers had Ahnold, gen x-ers have Ronnie, Jay, and the 90s-2000s bro culture, and zoomers have Cbum and the infinite amount of other jacked e-celebs to follow
It seems like millenials were the one generation that didn't care about lifting or taking care about themselves

end of story
I got laid as an average height broke skinnyfat alcoholic, I don't think you could do that now because of . Also we grew up in a participation trophy culture where trying was cringe. Zoomers understood that it's about making it LOOK effortless, mostly because they had us as a tragic counter example. I be like you nibbas welcome ong frfr
Millennials are failures. They’d rather drink IPAs at the barcade and whine about capitalism
tf is barcade
A pub that has arcade video games available to play.
A portmanteau of “arcade” and “bar” where Millennials drink beer and play video games in progressive cities
>portmanteau
Refreshing to see an Anon with a good vocabulary.

What does that even mean
Loses points for correct spelling. Also, replying to yourself is cringe.
It's like an arcade like from when our parents were kids DUDE but we are ADULTS now so you can have BEER while you play VIDEO GAMES bro! It even has exposed brick walls!
rent freeeeeeeee
It didn't skip Millennials. Zoomers are just the ones spamming tiktok the hardest right now and tiktok is the current fad.
Never heard of zyzz? He was the inspiration for so many millenials. Your view is skewed because you weren't there lifting weights with the rest of us. We brought back aesthetics. And squatting as something important for bodybuilding. The gen x dude used to tell us squats were dangerous and stupid.
Gen x was right about that
Use safeties and know your limit. People get hurt with poor form, no safeties and going heavy as frick all the time. Squatting at 60-70% will make you grow.
Yeah lmfao. The whole "aesthetics" subculture took off in the late 00s, and it was just around the time I was 14-16 that lifting became a thing for your average lad, and not just athletes. At least in my country. I don't really see this zoomer stuff where I'm from, but those little c**ts sound insufferable in the US
>Never heard of zyzz
>Idolize a roidtroony drug addict that had to take a wienertail of anabolic steroids and other hard drugs to overcome being too much of a pussy to approach complete prostitutes
Millennials really are cucks.
Oh, don't get me wrong. I hated the c**t at the time. He grew on me well after his death.
because millenials are gays lmao
they had lots of good bodybuilders, they just didn't appreciate them because gay generation
frick millenials
>didn't recognize bodybuilders because they are gay
I don't think thats how that works anon
gay is not homophobic, it is anti-feminine
millenial men are mentally women, which is why they do not appreciate the concept strength and vote for bernie
>not homophobic
lol gay
shut up gay
bodybuilders were allowed to have higher bodyfat and thus bigger and fuller muscles back then since the competition was less competitive
nowadays if you're not 4% bodyfat with a shredded gooch, don't even bother
back then you had guys almost reaching 10% bf who still stepped on stage
back then they thought bigger = better, modern bb thinks leaner = better
it's ugly and gross
It also has a lot to do with that "dry" look that they all try to achieve by taking roids that aren't water-retaining (like tren) and tons of diuretics. I don't know who came up with the idea that it makes you look good if you force out most of the water from your body. They all look severely unhealthy and unnatural and nobody outside their sport even considers them particularly attractive (contrary to Arnold, who was is pretty much universally accepted as having been pretty good looking during his time). It's insane what has become of this sport, I wish we could go back to the time before this was a thing. Then again, it has always been the male equivalent to a beauty pageant, so it's no wonder it has gone to shit.
Millennials are whining losers; they don't have the mentality for bodybuilding. That it's why we gen-Z will always look better no cap
>bald, pack-a-day, dyel, homosexual looks better than a mustache bacon worshipping bobble-head homosexual who follows strict medical studied regimen for gains instead of sucking gays while lifting "strong" in between half hour rests.
Our generation is insufferable but Gen Z are the most moronic people in the gym.
Has anybody ever had better biceps than arnold?
I don’t know in terms of bicep peak, but for me the depth of Zane’s insertions and the vascularity make them more aesthetic. I can understand if people disagree though.
We had Phil Heath unfortunately.
Millennial men resent masculinity.
Why does Arnold still look better?
Real tan and on test+dbol instead of test+tren+anadrol+superdrol+clenbuterol+winstrol+southerndrol
>he thinks Arnie is only on test and dbol
Millennials truly are fricking stupid
He probably used deca and winny as well, but that's it.
And primo.
because arnold is in natural lighting somewhere in the southern California hills at 8-10% bodyfat with a mild tanning oil on versus chris being 4% bodyfat dickskin lean in led lighting at the mr olympia in las vegas with enough dark tan painted on to make him look indian
Back then: Bigger arms
Now: Bigger torso
It's because of the powershitting meta.
This. If I am incredibly stressed I don't eat at all. I never ate for 4 days straight when in a battle with my ex. Just coffee and water.
frick you mean bluh?
>doing hard shit like tren for that
>cope
cbum is millenial
cbum is more millenial than zoomer
bodybuilders are fricking gay homosexuals that don't look good and aren't strong. Why would anyone give a shit about them?
You're using skewed generations. Gen X is really the 70s kids, Millennials are the ones who grew up with Jay vs Ronnie. I am 81 and technically a millennial, and to me peak bodybuilding was the late 90s and early 00s.
>81
>Millenial
Who let gramps on the internet?
Grandpa thinks millennial means they were born in the previous millennium
cbum is not a zoomer
>t. fellow 1995 baby who has a vested interest in protecting our reputation from aspersions of zoomerhood
What's the sence in muscles if you are grey and look 45 with 25?
i'm 28 and i still sometimes get asked for ID at the bar, if you're a balding wrinkled homosexual at my age then that's surely a skill issue on your part
Just don't get too rough on your organism like he.
I will never get
a) why they think that <5 % bf is attractive
b) why they think that spray-on tan makes them look better
c) why they think that taking diuretics and looking like a dried beef jerky is attractive.
Just compare these two, Arnold is around 300 % as attractive despite having less muscle mass.
Preparing to win Mr Olympia is not the same as training to look attractive, and it hasn't for a long time. Just like running a marathon, it's not actually good for your body. The base sport (lifting, running) is good for you, but doing it competitively means overshooting the initial goal
Chum has the worst biceps in the history of pro BB, Jesus Christ.
Not the same height as the picture implyes
Actually lifting only became a mainstream hobby in the 2010s. Before, lifters were either seen as eccentric, homosexuals or dumb meatheads. Until the 2010s fitness craze, getting in shape meant dieting, running and doing some push ups and situps for most people. That's one of the reasons obesity wasn't as bad back then.
t. over 40
Yeah, when I was at school even up until 2009 there were like 4 or 5 people who lifted. Plenty of fit runners and stuff though. We didn't have wrestling here in Australia though so maybe that changes things.
Same in britain. Fit meant you were playing footie, lifting weights and being a roided teen was never on anyones radar
facts
also most people didnt know you need so much protein in your diet and didnt understand macros
exactly. lifting was niche was hell before bodybuilding.com forums took off and zyzz died. anyone who visibly lifted before like 2012 was assumed to be on roids and some kind of dumb meathead who lived in the gym
I don't care much for the general "millennial" culture or the soi homosexuals who got to define it, but people of my generation popularized the gym and working out in the form it has today.
I don't really rate the roided out, effeminate types that feel the need to peawiener on Instagram/TikTok etc. Even when I see someone my age post a vid of them.loftimg it's just them doing the reps and a brief note about weight and the milestone. Zoomer homosexuals need to overlay some awful musicz inspirational message and reaction shots of dyels in the background. Absolute cringe losers
back in the late 2000s that i started lifting it was mainly about strength without being fat, bodybuilders were not liked cause everyone knew they were on tons of stuff despite claiming natty, some of which like mike o tren still do, then the strength thing really took off and in came the powershitters who took it to the extreme which meant just get fat and lift big numbers and roids hit the causal gym and everything went sideways
All these are correct. I don't think zoomers realise how far from the mainstream lifting was until the late 2000's (maybe mid 2000's, depending on where you live). And nobody was on roids except the massive 40 year old eastern European men who probably used every plate in the gym. Go back to 2000 and any gym that wasn't specifically dedicated to Olympic lifting or powerlitinf probably had frick all weights, and those they had were dumbbells going up to 20kg and a few bars with old cast iron plates.
what were gyms/fitness culture like pre-smart phones?
t. 25 year old zoomer
Pretty much same as now. Instead people just had their iPods and MP3-players that they would shuffle music on and shit, people also chatted more with each other in the gym.
But you have to remember gyms was like this bubble of people and nobody really gave a shit about it. You didn't lift to become good looking, it was more about becoming strong.
Nobody was filming themselves lifting and you had a lot less tolerance for acting like a narcissist, at least in my experience. One of my friends was the first person I ever saw taking post workout pics in the mirror, and people looked at him like he was a total homosexual. Seems to be a lot more common now. Also, the whole yoga pants thing wasn't popular for women, so you mainly saw them wearing shorts and workout shirts like men.
There's one chick in my gym who wears normal shorts. She looked so hot next to all the skin tight flabby girls. I wish I could've told her with seeming like I wanted a bit.
I mean, we had Zyzz and the aesthetics crew and to this day his brother Chestbrah claims they made lifting what it is today which you could argue is somewhat true considering all the current gen x youtubers/social media idols all know who Zyzz is and literally wears Zyzz related clothing.
Also Zyzz was WAY ahead of his time with the social media shit he did, he used Facebook as a way to brand himself/his image before it was really even a thing. I think if Zyzz had lived longer he would have gotten more attention from the outside world which would have resulted in him being the millennials idol (which it still is/was but to a larger degree)
>Chestbrah claims they did
That guy is an absolute loser and he will claim anything to stay relevant.
Everytime i see chestbra i Imagine him dancing on his Brother grave. He has the charisma of a wet spinge. Frickin homosexual
Ah, I hear what you're saying, but it hit him very hard and it's tough to recover from losing so close. I went weird for like 10 years when I lost someone close. I give the guy a break.
If Zyzz was still around he would be a twitch streamer plugging a shitty supplement every 5 minutes amd probsbly have a twitlonger involving sexual antics that soft canceled him.
Nah, he wasn't like that. He had an odd personality, but he really cared about everyone. Genuinely a good guy. Just couldn't look after himself too well.
Oh sorry for your loss, how did you know him?
If you look at chestbrah (his brother), Jeff Seid, Lexx Little, David Laid etc etc. They all pretty much just post a few times a month on Youtube with no effort put in and then just repeat the same IG stories shilling some whocares-company to get their monthly income.. It's pretty obvious Zyzz would have done the same and just cruised trough life on easy mode like they all seem to do. Give it 5 years and next gen like Alex Eubank will do the same. Literally just being a name with over 10k followers and you can make insane cash on social media doing the bare minimum
Bodybuilders were freaks at the time and the physiques that appealed to normies and that were popular just weren't that impressive by todays standards. We were still lifting though but not to become massive.
Get fricked zoomer, Millennials had Zyzz, the Rock and a bunch of other muscle bound dudes. Our generation carved the online culture for lifting, especially /fit./
Gym culture got a huge boost in popularity about 15 years ago, right when millenials started to pick fitness up. Gen Z bodies are built on that foundation
Millennials (EU) came of age right in the festival season, when it was expected of you to look your best during the summer
>Lifting weights as a hobby
What does that even mean? Like lifting weights because you're bored? I lift to be in shape, not to pass the time.
Also the generational war thing is overplayed and cringeworthy.
Cbum is a millennial, lol. Just barely, but still.
Grouping people by their generation is stupid. It's no different that astrology. They think the month of your birth determines your personality, you think the decade of your birth determines your personality. It's too broad a group to draw any meaningful conclusions from.
Bodybuilding is the gayest thing on earth. Boomers are lazy fat fricks who just want to watch TV. Gen X are just boomer morons with worse music and more drug use. Millenials are queerb8 woke vidya playing lazy morons. Gen Z are just like millenials except worse in every way- more queer, more urban, more social media obsessed etc. They are all bad but honestly a rock on the ground could see that Gen z is honestly the most fricked up bunch of queers that has ever existed
>t. Millennial
Look I make no bones about how shit millenials are kek- there is nothing more pathetic than a bunch of boomers/genx/millenials/genz having pride in their manifestly shit generations. I mean you have a group of people who have had all regional, racial, religious, etc. pride removed from them so I guess their generation is all they have left, which is really pathetic when you think about it. All the extant generations are dog shit although within the group some are worse than others and you have a pretty linear decline as time goes on imho.
Boomers get more grief because they were the ones who started the rapid decline in earnest- not because they were technically the worst.
Its hard not to hate the broccoli head zoomies, but remember scene kids? And I guess the other generations had their share of morons. Probably the same percentage of people in each generation are decent. The rest are trash.
I disagree- I think the likelihood that each generation had the exact same % of decent vs shit people would actually be an unbelievable coincidence that is basically impossible. These generations are spawn of each other so you always get a sort of progression, plus differing factors in economics, technology, etc. no it is actually insane to think that they are all more or less on par kek.
So for example I can say with full conviction that the boomers parents were just way fricking better than the boomer kek most of them would admit it too- as boomers have aged they have actually tried to present themselves as a half ass version of their parent when ironically in their earlier lives all they wanted to do was rebel against them.
This whole meme about
>every generation said that about the next generation.
Is so fricking modwit moronic I don't even know where to start. Yes, all generations say that... but does that mean it could not eventually be true at some point kek? People might cry wolf but that does not mean one day there might not actually be a wolf in the flock right?
You're a smart guy. Very convincing. Thanks.
You're welcome
I can only say zoomers on which /misc/ shits are not the same on which IST shits.
Idk what that even means all I'm judging on is the people I see in real life and the zoomies are so goddam queer idk what to even say about them it is actually astounding just how gay and homierdly they are.
they were stigmatized as douchey jock bros in all the media millenials grew up with, so it was considered an activity for cringey lunkheads with low iq's. I still lifted anyway cuz I grew up going to hardcore shows where fights usually broke out. I was skinny and got slammed around in the pit, bulked up so I could hold my own and throw down when necessary.
tl/dr: hardcore music made me lift.
Haha i remember getting tossed about at gigs when I was a skinny 15 year old. Some of the bigger guys really got a kick out of hurting me.
it did
>zoomers have Cbum
Cbum is a millennial.
He's their idol. Pretty close in age and stuff I guess. For most millenials it was cutler and Coleman.
ahhhnold bis and chest mog the shit out of clisp
