The reality is that the average NBA player gets paid $400,000 a year or something, they're 85 IQ, never had financial education, 20 years old, and suddenly given more money than their past 3 generations have made in their entire lives, and their career lasts 5 years before they're out of a job with no education or skills. I don't have the statistics handy but essentially all former players end up broke within 5 years, 85% of them or whatever. It's to the point where I think it was Shaq who started some sort of mentoring program to teach these guys how to not end up broke
