I don't know why people have gotten so preachy about it, but is great under a few conditions for some people. If a person has a food intolerance, diabetic, or really has no self control when it comes to carbs it can really help them lose down to a reasonable weight. It isn't for everyone though and if you are athletic it will hurt you just as much as going vegan. Too each there own, but if you are over 250 lbs then you should probably start with keto. Otherwise it is kind of not worth it.
The refined carbs/sugar insulin spike isn't good for anyone but you may handle it better when you are metabolically healthy. People who are overweight, prediabetic, HBP, etc. benefit from low carb/no carb diets. However, a lot of these people think this gives them an excuse to eat steak, cheese, bacon, and beef jerky all day. The truth is a moderate to low carb diet is good with mostly meats, eggs and dairy, green veggies, and a little fruit. If you eat carbs they should be whole grains little processing.

whole idea of keto was to get diabetics who can't properly process carbs some semblance of health.
Then it was adopted as weight loss diet, as no carbs means no junk food. People were still supposed to eat their pickled veggies and even normal veggies in small amounts to get their micro's.

Do not do keto lol. CICO is basically 90% true (barring some variation in metabolism that is normal due to dieting / lifestyle / genetics). You cannot "eat as much as you want" while doing keto, or any fat loss diet for that matter.
You need to count calories. You need to do resistance training to stave off muscle loss during fat loss phases / build muscle. You need carbohydrates to fuel your body for effective resistance training, otherwise you'll be tired and weak in the gym.
