Any sensible diet should be "meat based". Every single indigenous society bases its traditional meals around a certain meat or fish. It doesn't mean you need to be carnivore, it just means you should smart enough to realise that there might be some truth to the ancestral wisdom that nutrition comes from animals, not plants. Humans are evolved to obtain nutrients from species higher on the food chain like large mammals. Pretty much any nutrient you can think of is vastly more bioavailable from animals.

I actually did go full keto at one point eating almost pure protein and some fat just because it helped break sugar addiction. It's not a useless tool within a diet but it is not a long term diet

CICO just means you like to quantify what you put into your mouth. It can help you fit in some high calorie foods you enjoy but tend to overeat. Plenty of people do low carb/high protein and count calories. Any serious body builder who wants to remain thin but get sufficient protein needs to count calories at some point.
