Why do people blame Fast Food for the Obesity Epidemic?

I enjoy eating fast food (specially McDonald's and KFC) quite regularly. Like once a week at least I get a large meal.

My BF is 12% and I'm in perfect health according to my doctor.

At the end of the day it's all CICO
morons wouldn't get fat if they knew how to count calories

This, also “back in the day”, most people were still mostly eating real food at home. Fast food was the place that served over processed crap that was calorie dense and people over ate it. Not to mention there is a lot of overlap between people who are too lazy to make a meal and too lazy to stay active.
Some fast food has started to move back to using actual ingredients while at home food is as processed as ever so OP has a point about it having a bad rap despite it being similar to a lot of foods these days. But the key is always CICO

Cause they are the problem. In the past going out to eat was not feasible everyday and you had to make food home, fast food was made to be consumed fast, made fast with terrible ingredients and cheap. Somehow after decades of propaganda it became part of the regular American diet.

Vegans are the problem, who forced them to use vegetable oils over beef tallow.

Most fatties would not call this regularly, and that wouldn't be all they ordered.

motherfricker these fools are eating multiple meals a day at these establishments, and refilling their 45oz sodas at least 3 times per visit per day. Probably ingesting 1000 calories plus of pure sugar a day.
    who would you blame?

I blame the morons who choose to eat slop multiple times a day. It's not even economical, this garbage easily runs in excess of $10 per meal.

I see this all the time where I live.
People have a fast food delivery for every single meal, every single day. It's incredible.

I witnessed one of my coworkers spend 43 dollars at Wendy's on a lunch break for a meal. I don't think /fit can comprehend how the fat brain works.

I was a fast food fiend back in '19. Went out for lunch every single day during work since they wouldn't let me smoke on campus. Never spent more than $10 though. Since I'm autistic I can tell you exactly how much I spent everyday.
Taco bell: like $5-6 on the cravings box or an assortment of dollar menu items. Like 1200-1600 calories including the drink. At least I never got a drink if it wasn't part of the combo, and then I would only half fill it. Not great but better than slurping down 50oz in a sitting
Subway: love me a footlong. I could usually only go when I had the coupon to get any footlong for $5.99. Like 1200 calories or so
Get Go: love the Buffalo chicken wrap. Like $6 plus $2 for a wine cooler cause hurray for drinking on lunch break. I think it was only like 800 calories for the wrap. I can't fathom what it must cost now.

Glad I stopped that. By the time I got sent to wfh for covid, I was too fat to fit into my work clothes lol

Also, fast food portions were a lot smaller and not filled with high-fructose corn syrup and other ingredients designed to get people addicted to food.

America (and other countries like it) needs healthier fast food options. If healthy food is cheap and convenient, then it's a lot easier to pick an option that won't ruin your health

Depends on how many calories you burn. A woman in her 30+ years who walks 10000 steps a day but is otherwise sedentary will have met 70% of her daily caloric maintanence with the 1200 calories you find in a large mcdonalds menu. Which btw is still a lot even for a guy who works out 3-5 times a week and walks 10000 steps a day. The 3000-4000 calories which you burned through excercise would still not allow you to get into a caloric deficit to the point you get down to 12% bf. Which leaves us with the option that you burn more calories than that, mostly through neat, which makes you lucky or you actually don't eat as much as you believe you do.

CICO matters most. And if you're not ordering an XL soda with 600 calories for lunch and dinner like some people, then you can definitely have fast food in moderation and be fine.

Because one meal at a fast food place is easily over 50% of how much the average person should be eating. Those same people are still eating three times a day. The calorie density makes it easy to eat too many calories for those that don't pay attention or care.

I love fast food like you wouldn't believe. It's too bad europe and my shitty small city in particular is not really built for it. I would love to eat at a fast food place 7 times a week especially with as many options as americans have. For me its really just McDonalds which I frequent weekly. Woud love to get post work out meals from Chipotle, Five Guys, Shakeshack, I mean I could go on with the list forever.

Whenever I used to get fast food I would be craving it until I stop eating it for a few days. I would also get tons of food because it feels pointless to go all the way there and only get a sandwich. It feels special, tastes really good, and they hide the ingredients from you so you have an easier time choosing to be ignorant. Its advertised very well. Take a drive anywhere and fast food will be blasted in your face. People need to start thinking about it like the malicious slop it is instead of giving in so often.

Fast food is certainly not the main cause of obesity, lack of exercise is. Plenty of research has shown that you can get away with having a pretty crappy diet as long as you exercise frequently.

People like abstractions because there is less social backlash when you are vague.

They talk about "processed food" or "fast food" instead of carbs because identifying the real culprit makes people upset.

I don't know how anyone can enjoy fast food even semi regularly. It's not even that good and nowadays not even cheaper than just going to get real food from a local place.
