Not better or worse, just different.
Also depends on your proportions and goal.

left grinds my shoulders into dust, right you get a better range of motion generally and feels less fricky on your shoulders.

For some reason I struggle more with the one on the right. Or I would be doing the one on the right and then I sort of gradually shift to the left one.

Left is easier which is why boomers do it. When a boomer says he can do x many push ups you need to divide that by at least 3 to get the real number. Right is harder but will actually give you gains.

I start with right and if my arms get a bit tired I'll go do left. Max out my push ups every year

Yes it does as long as you don’t fully have you arms at your sides using your triceps for the exercise

Think about how you do benchpress. You're not supposed to have your elbows pointed straight out on either side of you, you want to keep them tucked in at about a 45-degree angle so you get more stretch in the muscle. Same principle.

      >You're not supposed to have your elbows pointed straight out on either side of you, you want to keep them tucked in at about a 45-degree angle so you get more stretch in the muscle
So you don't know how to bench specifically to target the chest. Got it.
The more your elbows are flared out, the more you hit chest because what the chest does is bring your upper arm across the body. Which does that articulation better?
The more tucked your elbows are, the less chest you use and the more delt and triceps dominant the exercise becomes.

Some guy made fun of me once for warming up on the bench press and stated that warming up is dumb and that he just does pushups in the lockerroom.
Then later I found out he worked at the israeliteelry store in the mall.

right is a tricep focused exercise and takes some strain off the shoulders, and is generally harder
left puts more focus on the chest (probably why you're doing pushups) and is a bit easier
the correct thing to do is not do pushups and instead to tricep pulldowns/skull crushers for triceps and bench press for chest. only do pushups if you don't have access to proper gym equipment.

I disagree. Most people find right easier, at least I saw far more people doing right in basic training.
It is harder if you're used to doing left but you can get proficient in right much faster I think.

Why even waste time with pushups when you can just do bench press in the gym?

  14. 7 months ago

Because everyone keeps btfoing their shoulders.

Because left is bad for your shoulders. If you bench like left as well you’re asking for shoulder pain when you get older or start lifting heavy
