      BMI is pretty shit

It takes 10 seconds and a scale to get bmi

    >NFL players can be a lean 275 pounds, so that means I'm not obese 🙂

This. The subtext of this article is that obesity is a social construct so fatties can cope. The vast majority of people who register as obese need to lose weight.

Yeah except it says even skelingtons need to lose a few. If it's that inaccurate, it just isnt reliable.

Bmi is used to calculate BODY MASS

Bodymass is fat+muscle. Sure muscle is better than fat but an excess of both is bad for you. High muscle BMI still leads to health issues, such as sleep apnea, weak joints, heart failure, etc.

Stop using muscle mass to cope. HIGH BMI IS BAD

this is a good point that i've never really considered despite the eternal congaline of beefcake deaths

It's accurate for large populations as a whole and like over 90% of individuals while requiring zero equipment other than a basic scale. Is a full body comp test better? Yeah, but a scale capable of doing it reliably is order of magnitude more expensive, good luck getting every institution in the world to buy one when bmi does the job.

      >It's accurate for large populations as a whole and like over 90% of individuals
funny enough not even that. some skinny fat people are "fine"/healthy on BMI scale but they still carry enough body fat to get all the risks from being too fat. and these sort of people are way more common than average gym bro who is "too jacked" according to BMI.

Yeah, it's definitely because of muscle

because ausgays don't need to worry about getting any dumber when suffering head injuries

Because it works the vast majority of the time and if needed health professionals can switch to calculating body fat percentage on a case by basis. If you claim BMI is inaccurate for you but never had a doctor calculate your body fat percentage you should probably take a good long look in the mirror, you butter ball.

I would argue that it is still somewhat viable. Carrying more weight on your frame still leads to problems like joint degradation over time and increased odds of sleep apnea. Yes you're not fat, but mass is mass and gravity is gravity.

BMI is not even meant for individuals. Why people keep using this shit I will never know.

BMI is becoming increasingly inaccurate, not because people have secret NFL careers but because most people have so little muscle that BMI overestimated it, ranking many people as normal when they're really skinny fat.

most people do not have nearly enough muscle for this to be a problem. So this argument is moronic

dude look at the average NFL lineman, they ARE obese

    Its a nu-science cope.

If you picked out a random person from society, an american especially, that had a BMI of 25+ there is atleast a 90% chance this person would be fat and overweight. If you did it again it probably wouldn’t be until your 10th pick that you get someone who isn’t fat.

It's never been something that should be used for muscular or atheltic people. it's always been about skelly thin people being a healthy weight or not or fat people just telling them exactly how disgusting they are

I'm healthy bf% wise (17%) but overweight BMI wise (27). I look fat so I'll keep cutting till my BMI is sub 25.

Do you think the various organs of the human body would struggle more to maintain a large body or a small body? It makes sense that a larger body needs more work to maintain, so BMI is an indicator of health as in how stressful it is for your organs to keep up with your weight. Also, heavy people overburden their joints, bones and heart so much more than a lighter person. Don't forget that having lots of muscle is a strenuous task for your body, building and maintaining a lot of muscle mass is hard. Twinks are the ideal bodytype :*~~

A torn anus is unironically less healthy than obesity. Gay sex is even less healthy than smoking too, not a joke.

Obese BMI is bad for you whether it's fat or muscle. No one with a natural amount of muscle has an obese BMI while lean. Overweight maybe, but not obese.

In high school a lot of the football guys were pretty fat since mass is more important if you're tackling

BMI works well enough for the average person but fatties like to point out edge cases (e.g., professional athletes) to cope

the actual answer is that health is based on a holistic assessment and that BMI is good enough in the vast majority of cases whereas people may not know their BF%

Fatties don't want to get on, let alone look at scales, you think they're going let a nurse or doctor come at them with calipers?

    >Do you do any mild to intense physical activities during the week?
    >Do you work a job that is at least somewhat physically intensive?
If either of those are "No" then BMI will accurate .
