Calisthenics is the freemium version of lifting. It works but not well and it taps out really fast
Weighted dips/chin-ups and ab exercises like hanging leg raises are good but if you want to be more muscular than otter mode you need to do more

After years of doing calisthenics I can finally say... It doesn't work.
It gets you to a basic fitness level but you will never get stronger or more muscular than with weights. And even then, you could just get some adjustable dumbbells or kettlebells and get better results than with calisthenics while having the same advantages of doing them at home.
Calisthenics only works if you already have a strength and muscle foundation and train the "tricks" and movements to impress people at the beach or something.
TL;DR just train weights, you'll get better results, easier and faster than with memesthenics. After you get strong then train the cali movements

      Anonymous

I tried it for a few months with decent results but it's definitely inferior to lifting if your goal is muscle mass. Still do dips and pulls up though. Pushups are underrated imo.

Why would I ever want to be bigger than pic related? To attract gay men?
And irl you will never pick something heavier than 100kg, so "getting stronger" which I assume means "getting strong squats benches and deadlifts" is kinda pointless.

didn't say you wanted to look like a roided powershitter. But even getting to your picrel is easier and faster with weights than with calisthenics.

Calisthenics alone is good for the first 3-6 months of EVER working out but eventually you'll need to start adding weight, which I guess isn't calisthenics anymore but it's still cheaper and easier than going to a gym.

The only thing i dont like from calisthenics is the fact that you cant train legs in an effective manner unless your balance is the one of a monk and you can do stuff like single leg pistol squats to failure, and even then there is not enough load for a proper leg develomepent.

I’ve always liked calisthenics. It’s how I started my fitness journey. Even now I try to include them in my workouts. Every couple months I’ll take a few weeks off of free weights and do strict calisthenics (a few exercises I do with dumbells or cables to round out, but 90% of the workout is calisthenic). I like lifting and being big and strong, but I also want to maintain a level of mobility and athleticism. Don’t want to just be a blob that can move weight but can’t run a mile or do a pull up.

People who exclusively do calisthenics are either too poor or too cowardly to go to an actual gym and actually lift. To cope, they invent reasons why calisthenics is superior. All of these reasons are bullshit, so calisthenicsgays cope further by strawmanning about fat powerlifters or functional strength or something. In reality both are similar tools, but lifting is a broader/more versatile one.

    It's two problems:
    >calisthenicsgays making shit up to feel oppressed because their shit isn't popular
    >powershitters making shit up to feel superior because they got strong without getting aesthetic

Calisthenics and weights are both highly effective for different reasons and anyone who says otherwise is moronic or dyel.

Can't train legs, in actual fact not training legs makes calisthenics easier.

It's not hate, but it's simpler to progress with weight training where you can increase the weight or increase reps. Calisthenics is where we get all these gay 1000 push-ups/day programs because it's too complicated to increase the resistance.

    >pullups, chinups, dips
Don't care about anything else. Even at my fattest (220lbs 5'10) I could still do 8 perfect pullups or chinups, and dips with +90lbs. Most other cali exercises just look like memes or inferior barbell movements for poor people. That or they're just bad for training. Like being able to do free handstand pushups or muscle ups is cool as frick, but I'd never consider them in a routine.

Cause fit thinks that fitness is lifting and fit is full of braindead meatheads. They base everything on metrics like weight lifted, physically going to a gym and endlessly gaining weight.

So calisthenics, a discipline that can be very similar but is decidedly NOT that, irks them. Calisthenics works for people who prefer to train outdoors (Inb4 hiking, I said train), people who find others obnoxious and don't want interaction like in a gym, people who want to be able to train anywhere (not hauling weights), etc. There are more reasons than just getting jacked to train. You don't see people b***hing that training for football (not american) doesn't get you buff.

Also lifting has the most pathetic masculinity superiority complex that I never understood. Lifting is not manly, it doesn't make you tough. Short of real combat and killing someone in a war or self defense, combat sports are the manliest thing you can do. Actually testing your physical toughness against another man even during training. The training for modern MMA is leagues tougher than whatever your garden variety roidtroony is doing.

Source: Have done it all, except homicide. Focusing on Calisthenics and MMA atm.

You know it's made for horribly out of shape DYELs who are afraid of the gym when being able to do 6 normal push ups is level 5. That's just embarrassing. I don't even know what half of the higher levels mean.
      >close push up
You mean like a diamond push up but even easier?
      >uneven push up
      >1/2 one arm push up
      What the frick?
And for bodyweight exercises with no added weight, that's really shit volume.

        >Close Push-up (Level 6)
        >Same as level 5 but with hands placed under chest and thumbs touching.

        >Uneven Push-up (Level 7)
        >First single arm exercise. Dominant hand was placed on top of a 3.63-kg medicine ball. >Movement phase began with subjects focusing on a single side of the body.

        >1/2 One-Arm Push-up (Level 8)
        >A 3.63-kg medicine ball was placed under each subject's hips. After body was in proper >alignment, subjects lifted 1 arm off the floor and placed it palm up on their lower back.

        It's senseless.

I'm not saying that calisthenics are senseless. Your specific program is. And I say that as someone who can do about 9 good form (feet together) one-armed pushups.

The ways to increase strength is to increase weight lifted and total volume. Calis already suck for the first where most of the time all they can do it make the leverages harder, as your "progression" routine tries to do. The routine you posted has very very low volume, 3x6 is just so pointless for any kind of push ups if you want to get stronger.

A lot of the negative wrap that Cali gets come from influencers, particularly the younger ones. Most of them churn out the same old info yet unlike the older guys aren't able to add any new insight on technique, progression etc.

It doesn't help that most of them are the text book definition of Dyel so when they talk, it seems wrong for them to advice anyone... Because it is wrong. It doesn't help that I've been seeing a rise in Cali bro's shitting on Bodybuilding for basically no reason.

As an alternative for bodybuilding, it is objectively inferior at building muscle and yet you'll find enough Cali-zoomers claim otherwise to make you want to rip your hair out.

Fundamentally, the problem isn't Calisthenics itself, its the people who can't stay in their own lane.
