why does fit only swears by barbell exercises but everyone at the gym only does dumbbells?
I swear I'm the only one who does barbell curl, barbell OHP, barbell incline bench, in my gym because I let fit influence my routine

IST is obsessed with the powerlifting mindset. The most important thing is moving a lot of weight, even if it makes for worse exercises. Same reason why people here only do back squats instead of the superior and safer front squat. They just want to move a ltitle more weight cause it makes them feel cool
> safer front squat
It's also better for aesthetics.
is there really a significant difference between using a barbell vs a dumbbell if the movements are more or less the same though?
>but everyone at the gym only does dumbbells?
if you're at a commercial gym there are pretty much exclusively dyels there, and dyels love dumbbells
I prefer cables
Use dumbbells, just about anything you can do with a barbell can be done with dumbbells and that way you can't "cheat" and aid the weaker side with the stronger, it makes for more even progress.
barbells are the best tool for developing strength because of practicality. It's easier to add weight to (progression) and they are more ergonomic. Not to mention how they interact with other equipment, like racking them and so forth. However I think there is a lot of benefit to dumbbells as says. If I had a set of dumbells that were made out of a very dense metal so they were quite small, and went up in small increments of weight (lets say 0.5kg per dumbell/ 1kg per pair) i'm not sure i'd use barbells that much at all.
>Back squats
>Front squats
>Oly lifts (and variations)
>Deadlift
>Klokov press
>Sots press
>Push press
>Zerchers
>Good mornings
If you are creative enough, you can do a lot more with a barbell than you can with a dumbbell.
homie does it exercise the muscles you want?
It does?
Then what's the problem?
the only reason I got a barbell at home is deadlifts. pretty much all bodybuilders use dumbbells.
>all bodybuilders use dumbbells.
and barbells and machines of all kinds.
look, dumbelss will always be better for isolation and focus of the muscles
but barbell has its function as well and i love to do barbell OHP becaue it works better on my core and stability, to do barbell curls as the first, general excercise before going to more isolation dumbell curl excercises
so dont feel ashamed using barbells
people only doing dumbells excersices are mostly the normies who dont bother with nuances (and they honestly shouldnt be bothered if their goal is to just stay average fit).
I FRICKING LOVE REVERSE CURLS AND THERE’S NOTHING YOU CAN SAY TO CHANGE THAT.
>t. is a wristlet anyway
FRICK YOU I TRAIN WRIST CURLS AND REVERSE WRIST CURLS AS WELL gay AND THERE’S NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT
post wrists w/ timestamp and a basedjak pointing at the wrist
Are reverse curls really that good as OP pic makes them out to be? Can you do them without hurting your wrists?
Hurts my elbow tendons or ligaments. Can be good. Best on a cable machine.
BASEADO
Most """peoole""" in gyms are dyel normalgays. Normies are frankly scared of barbells. They're intimidated by the idea of getting under a bar. Dumbbells and machines just seem friendlier and more inviting
You can lift more weight with barbell. More muscle recruitment, more adaptation. You can use dumbbells on stuff like curls because who the frick cares you're working like 1 muscle. But OHP is better with a bar.
If I wanted to use dummbells I'd stay at home.
I used to have a barbell only mindset but finally dropped it. Only time I use barbell is for behind neck press and the rest I use weighted chins/dips, kettlebells, and Hammer Strength machines.
I wish I didn't get psyopd by IST. Barbell exercises grinded my shoulder into dust and created imbalances.
Frick bench pressing. If I could go back I'd never have used a barbell ever again.
how did barbell exercises grind your shoulders and not dumbells? That makes no sense
He's just a moron blaming everything but his own low IQ brain for getting injured
Personal preference
Bench Pressing heavy will grind your shoulders to dust this is common knowledge, even professional powerlifters with perfect form get it fricked.
Dumbbell variations are way less stressful on ur shoulders and mobility since you're not locked like barbell.
None of that is true
It is
Try doing DB bench with hypermobile elbows. Every lockout you see yourself nearly going to snap city. So either can never fully lockout and have to do 3/4 reps or can only do barbell.
Barbells are easier to progressively overload
Dumbbells give better hypertrophy gains for secondary compounds/isolations
A good routine is going to involve barbells, dumbbells, and machines
>but everyone at the gym only does dumbbells
They're probably not even doing good dumbbell exercises either.
Dumbbells are good for selected exercises. It's just that everyone falls for the meme that using a barbell leads to imbalances so they use them for motions that are generally better with a barbell. Many such people on IST as well. Meanwhile IRL, it's impossible to develop an imbalance if your form and technique is good since you have to lift with the same force to get the bar up evenly with both arms.
>do only dumbbell rows
>max out weight
now youre stuck and you have to learn a completely new movement(barbell row) WHILE youre lifting heavy ass weight which can injure you cause you have no practice in it.
I like dumbell exercises but I try to vary it with barbell for practical reasons like these
Tbh your gym is just garbage unless you're telling me you're strong enough to do 200 pound dumbbell rows with good form
My gym is just the weight room on the side of my boxing gym and even we have heavy dumbbells
ive been to 4 diferent gyms and most ive seen is 50kg dumbells I think, also no modern gym is stocking 200lbs dumbells for that 1 out of 10000 autist who actually uses them, if had to guess its old-school gyms that have them, and lets not talk about the problem of setting those 200lbs dbs in proper position before the actual lift
its fine if youre early stages of lifting, I use them, but them being your only way to lift long-term will limit you and when you want to start doing barbells... well good luck doing a movement you have absolutely no practice in while under heavy weight
It's because people think that strength and powerlifting numbers are the same.
Actual strength is how much force your muscles can produce, powerlifting "strength" is how much weight you can move by putting your body in a position that lets you move more weight without actually producing more force with your muscles.
>without actually producing more force with your muscles
based powerlifters breaking the laws of motion
Front squatting is gay
I use dumbells and machines/cables for everything.
I have a home gym, only dumbbells. I’m convinced they’re better for everything except legs
