        the problem is that it grows the muscle that's borderline useless for aesthetics and the exercise itself is pretty taxing since it uses shit ton of stabilizers, plus it compresses the shit out of your spine since you're holding the weight above your head
        I can bet that if the average gym bros were to start doing OHP more seriously, no one would be praising this lift so much on IST

          The absolute load of OHP is way lower compared to the other big compound lift. OHP, even trained quite heavy (4-6 reps) and frequently (3 times per week), is not that taxing on the body.

          If the stabilizing and balancing aspect of doing this lift feels hard, chances are that squats and deadlifts were neglected.

    OHP is good for showing off, since barely anyone does them and for powerlifting.

    Dumbell Shoulder Press is the superior choice. Although it gets mogged by Up Right Rows (Ez bar or Dumbells, whatever is more comfy for you)

      This is the right answer. OHP and deadlifts are the lifts that make me feel manly but OHP especially i feel like it fricked with my neck and upper back.

      I never use dumbbells. How heavy do they usually go?
      I can see the advantage of not having to get the bar past your face but if they only go up in 10 lb jumps that would be a problem

        Depends on your gym, mine has up to 200lbs dumbbells. They usually go up by 2kg which is roughly 5lbs, the smaller ones go up by 1kg.

    It's actually really good if you do it for high reps. Try 5 x 8-10 and your shoulders will be dead.

    I use this (iso-lateral shoulder press machine) for hypertrophy. OHP I focus mainly on strength

    The only people who say OHP is useless and bad for hypertrophy are those who can't even press 1 plate for reps.

    A correctly performed standing press will transform your entire upper body once you get to respectable numbers (+185lbs).
    But you gays are too impatient to get there. You want that chad physique without those chad traits.

    I don't know who these e-celebs are or what hypertrophy is but this lift is based and I feel super strong when I do it. It has gotten me more mires other than my benchpress than anything else I do in the gym. Literally 19 year old bawds and other dudes in the gym like damn bro thats alot of weight and you look good. I consider myself DYEL but I put up 135.

      You can’t do as much weight standing than sitting but it’s a better show of overall ability. It’s a hard exercise.

    When I lifted weights for about a year doing an SS-like routine, growth around my shoulders was probably the most noticeable change to my body, which I attribute primarily to OHP.
