We aren't really meant to. Our bodies have the ability to gain mass but it's not normal for us. We're meant to use tools and tactics for hunting and fighting. You may as well ask why we don't have fangs and claws.

Maybe you should but you don't. Evolution doesn't just magically give you every possible tool you may need. It's doubtful, but maybe we would develop claws if we didn't develop technology (tools, agriculture, etc.) fast enough but we did and now we haven't needed claws for thousands of years.

Claws and big teeth is a niche that was already filled by predators better than us in that specific aspect. Humans throwing a rock to kill prey had significantly less energy expenditure than a predator running full force to catch fast prey. Making a long sharp stick to defend yourself against one of those large animals with said teeth and claws gave you the advantage to damage it at a distance with a higher chance of not getting hurt yourself. Compare that to just about every other predator vs predator who has to get up close and personal to go for the neck every single time, neither one of them is leaving unscathed unless there was a major size difference. Poke big cat with a large stick and it will back off. Some smart Grug decided to combine throw rock and sharp stick together, now they can get in a group and throw a bunch of spears at a big cat and take it down.

See pic related? This is what fricking won the evolutionary arms race, no pun intended. This is what made humans be able to use tools and leverage the physical more than ever seen before on this scale. A human finding a big sturdy stick and swinging that has more power than a punch and can do a lot of damage with hardly any energy used. The chuck of a spear, the pull of a bow string, the swing of a sword, the pull of a trigger, and the push of a button. Imagine any predator on Earth being able to kill its prey simply by looking at it, that is the scale of how efficient weve become at killing things, even past our own need for sustainability. At some point in time, there was a switch that was turned one where we no longer needed to adapt to the planet, we needed the planet to adapt to our needs and wants.

Claws can only manage to destroy in nature while hands gave us the able to create, destroy, and create TO destroy. These stubby appendages made us win. More importantly, claws havent adapted to allow me to call you a homosexual from a different part of our planet.

human beings' predatory advantage is superior endurance. we can't outrun most prey but we continue chasing until eventually we catch them through attrition.

excess muscle mass only helps in short term running like sprints, and not even enough to justify too much of it, body builders aren't outrunning usain bolt.
plus your body has to feed this muscle tissue somehow and it negatively effects your ability to keep up a pace. even if you're pure muscle and extremely lean, it's still negatively affecting your endurance running to have too much. look at endurance runner's physiques, they can't afford to put on too much muscle. even david goggins, a notoriously muscled distance runner, is actually not very jacked, he's just very low bf%.

          https://www.popsci.com/persistence-hunting-myth/

It uses a modern horse race to justify it. The point is that the humans were smart enough to get a blow onto the animal and then be able to track it through blood or the fact that it's wounded and slow, the premise that it's a myth isn't very solid.

It's true we used our brains, but we do not have the body to take down these beasts, the smart thing would be to wound it because trapping it or herding it would likely back it into a corner and cost lives, the reasonable thing to do is figure out a weapon good enough to wound it and then track it as it ran, it makes much more sense than the theories against this persistence hunting.

They try to compare us to a lion or tiger picking off the oldest or youngest prey, but that doesn't matter when the prey is in its prime and its wounded.

Yes, more specifically they were often chased off cliffs. In America, these are known as "bison jumps" and were very common before the horse was reintroduced to the Great Plains by Europeans.

How about that there's only a tiny handful of populations known for persistence hunting and literally 99% of humanity throughout history hunted differently?

              Anonymous

I addressed that in my post, if you would read it.

Their evidence that they didn't persistence hunt is that fact that the butchered animals were in their prime, not old or young animals. They then compared that to how predators like lions and tigers hunt. They then raise the issue of proper tracking. What they gloss over is the fact that the human mind and body is capable of fashioning and using weapons to wound animals in their prime and then they are slower and perhaps bleeding and thus easier to track.

It's insane how moronicly simple this is to debunk with even a modicum of reasoning and then you have morons like this

I think it's due to our cursed being, while we are blessed with knowledge, we are at the same time cursed with weakness. Such is the price.
The smartest animals can at best match a teenager's mind, the human brain doesn't stop developing until at least 25 and can be improved throughout the majority of life until seniority and eventual decay.
It's also just a function that we are meant to grow, spiritually, intellectually, and therefore also in body, you must train body, mind and soul to become a worthy human being.

The actual reason is that strength and dexterity are opposite ends of a sliding scale, for all practical purposes. Physiologically, it takes a lot of energy to rein in musculature that can pop a man's head off his shoulders with a swipe, if you want it to also be able to build small tools and pick through stuff for foraging purposes. Cats are agile while moving their whole body, but clumsy when batting stuff around with their paws. You stay away from tigers because they can frick you up even while trying to be friendly with you.
Much of an animal's strength comes down to where muscles attach to bone. You either put it in one place and have massive leverage, or you put it in another and have fine control.

A tiger that is as smart as a human has zero need for human intelligence. If humans could survive winter without clothes or tools or fire and could easily kill with our bare hands and teeth without teamwork we would probably have intelligence comparable to tigers.

Most animals can't gain muscle, they grow up and they have a set amount of muscle that no amount of working out can change, humans are extraordinarily mutable.
Also we are decently strong for our size. Definitely stronger pound for pound then many similarly sized animals like wolves or deer.

if you want a real reason and not bait. It comes down to neuron motors in the muscles. They're very developed compared to other animals and the cost of it is bunches of muscle fibers tend to be a lot slimmer.

Because we don't live the way our ancestors did. They had no trouble gaining and maintaining muscle as long as food was plenty. All those things you do for "exercise" like lifting and moving heavy things, running, sprinting, etc were just daily parts of our ancestors' lives and not something they had to think about or make time to do. Live like that and you won't have trouble gaining and maintaining muscle, either.

Humans excel in tool building and abstract thinking. We can be amazing athletes, but our athletic prowess pales in comparison to what we can build including religions, social contracts, societies, cities, civilizations, tools for war, tools for environmental manipulation, etc.

Just my two cents but you, in the general sense, should focus far more on being an excellent tool builder in whatever endeavor you pursue more than being physically fit.
Don't cringe but really think about it, you won't ever have the physical ability to fly, punch through people or run faster than a bullet, but you could potentially build tools that would allow you to do so.

tl;dr Humans sacrificed physical prowess for our absolutely ridiculous brain capacity which allowed us to mog every other living being on this planet. Consider focusing more on brain gains.

homosexual Neanderthalensis were tanky human builds that individually could outcompete modern humans in pretty much every Olympic sport. homosexual sapiens spec'd more into intelligence, endurance, and dex and their group tactics made them way more fit than the Neanderthals, fit in the Darwinian sense. Sapiens cost less calories, but they sacrifice the gains of the Neanderthals.

Imagine if Neanderthals survived long enough to unlock agriculture though.

      >homosexual sapiens spec'd more into intelligence, endurance, and dex
      absolutely baseless claim
how the frick would one even assess Neanderthal endurance
only thing we know for sure is that h.sapiens were able to procreate much faster than them and sapienses hand is a bit more suitable for operating with small tools

No one's tried strength training OR roiding a gorilla yet, as far as I'm aware.
Definitely something for the next generation of mad scientists funded by desperately competitive states

because humans are evolving with undesirable genetics thanks to the fact that humans can breed each other regardless of their ability to survive in an environment that requires good genetics.
being muscular from going to the gym doesn't change the genetics of your offspring either, so "womyn fricking hot guys" isn't going to do shit for future generations, unless we commit to selective breeding.

      >unless we commit to selective breeding.
why? from here out we just need to churn out fat blobs that play with phones and do whatever their govt says, and we basically got that. People adjust to the environment, that's inevitable, and the environment is more comfortable than anything the earth has seen to date, so we're gonna see some cozy lookin humans.

Human bodies are optimized for energy efficiency to support big brains, so any unused muscle shrinks rapidly.

humans are naturally type 1 fiber dominant, we are made to use our brains to wound and then track our prey and out walk them.

We we're meant for large bursts of energy like an ambush predator like a tiger is. The tiger needs large type 2 fibers to hold onto and kill prey.

There's a reason humans tend to excel in endurance sports and most sports are endurance sports, it's only genetic freaks that do the large strength sports.

type 2 fibers have the most capacity for growth. Take that tiger for example, that shoulder is highly type 2 dominant, type 1 fibers do not have capacity for growth. It's very simple physiology.

We are much better at controlling our fatigue than a tiger is, a tiger has enough power for a short burst of energy and then it's spent. Humans and other type 1 dominant creatures, while they cannot hope to even come close to matching the raw power of a tiger, we have the ability to manage fatigue with our musculature and oxygen, rather than the quickly depleting glycogen which is used in short bursts of power

There is really no such thing as dysgenics or eugenics because every gene has a function. Saying strength is good genes is folly because there are negative aspects to allocating tons of resources for strength. We don't feel these negative sides to it in the modern world because we have tons of fresh, healthy foods and proteins at all times. If you had elite strength-building genes in the wild, you would be living a risky life.

Similarly for people who think height and frame mean "good genes", just look at monkeys, how successful they are, how nimble and agile they are. They are much more successful and not a lot of monkey species are at risk of extinction, unlike the apes which are a bigger than them, where every ape is at risk of inbreeding or extinction.

Humans are really obsessed with ranking and rating and putting down others every day. In fact a lot of the times another person or we could even bring it into a discussion on movies or games let's say - is just different, it's not different good or bad, it's just different. For SOME people at some point in their life, the movie might be just what they liked or what they needed. Same with genes. Fallacious to ever say better or worse genes, other than genes that cause horrific diseases or something, something has gone very wrong with those genes, not normal every day genes.

Human brain uses too much of our caloric intake, muscle doesn't really serve any real purpose as we have become more dependent on technology. Also lower muscle density as we evolved to use fine motor skills. Animals muscles fire at a much higher rate than humans since they use their body as their tool for their survival, whereas we don't. Even natives in the amazon are dependent on tools and don't live like animals

I'm just mad we never were able to develop some redundant organ systems. Im an EMT and from what I see having some kind of low grade secondary method of blood circulation would be the biggest improvement. I'm not talking another heart but a series of smaller vein beds and arteries throughout the body that are slightly beefier/have more smooth muscle in them to pump blood or even cut the flow to prevent bleed out. Kinda like a modified earthworm system with pseudo hearts. It would reduce the problems associated with heart failure and definitely improve athletic ability by keeping blood flow more constant.

    We don't need it.

Ancient humans relied on tools and long distance running until the prey gets exhausted. A tiger relies on ambush and quickly dispatching it's prey.

Humans are the best long distance runners compared to any animal even horses. Our feet and ability to sweat makes us be the best. Other animals can't sweat.

Being lean and muscular as nature intended for humans looks better anyways.
