I think she honestly doesn't understand the connection. So many women, and men tbf, think their mETabOliSm slowed down in their mid 20s when they really just were always eating too much and their habits took a few years to catch up to them.

      THIS

      fricking 100% this

as an old man, 36, I've seen it with my peers. Most start to get fat in their early 20s, I'd say for most people 22 is the last age where they actually look good. every year they'll maybe put on 5-7lbs and not really notice it, and then they're full blown lardos by the time they're 30. then they act as if it's all because of their age and ignore the fact they spent their whole 20s boozing, eating shit and not working out

And then once they're fat, they struggle to get un-fat because they've built up a lifetime of bad habits which are hard to break, and they also expect to be able to shed 15 years of fat gain in a fricking month at the gym

Its not. Im 30 and I have way easier time staying lean than in my late teens/early 20's. I started training when I was 16 but I was always kinda skinnyfat, puffy just high estrogen. Now Im not even dieting Im just eating maintenance and Im staying super lean just getting leaner I already have abs even though I havent started my cut. In my 20's I had to always suicide cut to see definition.

younger ppl move more -> burn more calories
and they are more insecure/have lower self esteem -> activly try to become or at least look thinner

Because many people are constantly in a slight caloric surplus that takes time to catch up to them. And because many people just move less as they get older.

Peoples metabolism slows as they get older and most people become less active as they age. If they don't take these factors into account and modify their diet they get fat.

      Anonymous

      >Peoples metabolism slows as they get older
It does, but people put waaay to much stock into it. It's really not a significant amount. From 20-30 it's maybe 10 calories a day different. It's basically one more calorie a year after 30. That means even at 50 years old you burn maybe 40 calories less in a day than at 20. That is not difficult to overcome.

the notion that your metabolism slows as you age is a myth. in part its because people tend to exercise much less in their old age; but also because it's much easier to gain fat than to lose it, so over time everyone who doesn't regulate themselves will tend towards being overweight

      Anonymous

it's more than that though. go on a diet at 18 vs. 48 and you'll see the difference, even with calories being equal

it's not. staying thin as a child and staying thin as an adult takes about the same effort.
the difference is that once you're an adult, you get to decide about your diet by yourself, there are no longer any parents around who'll tell you "no" when you want to eat the whole bag of chips.
people getting fatter as they get older is just the natural progression of their lack of discipline.

    Your metabolism slow down

But it's not hard at all. You just can't gorge on massive amounts of food as when you were young

      Anonymous

the slowdown is so fricking small, you can easily compensate for it by just eating ever so slightly less
it's not like you go from 3000 TDEE to 1500 TDEE
IIRC, it's like 1% per decade or something, starting at 20. By the time you turn 100, your metabolism has only slowed down by some 8%.

      Anonymous

This is true. When I was teen/very early 20s I used to eat a lot more than I do now but only weighed around 60kg at 5'9", I eat less now and hover around 80kg. And I have genuinely always weighed my food and tracked my macros, so I'm not just thinking I ate more then

Not that I'm complaining anyway, gains are easier and faster to make, groceries are fricking expensive so I'm happy to maintain my weight on less food. Slower metabolism makes it easier to pack on the guns. Back then my 1rm bench was fricking 1.5pl8 and now I do 2.5pl8

There’s absolutely nothing stopping office cucks from doing an hour of hiking after work each day. Hell, every office I’ve ever worked in had a fitness stipend of some kind.

        >There's nothing stopping you from giving up one of your 2 and a half hours of free time to walk, every single day, just to burn off calories because you were trapped in an office for 8 hours.

I know this is going to sound crazy, but maybe you could… eat lesser amounts of food to compensate for your decreased physical activity?

              >ok if you don’t have time to exercise then work on your diet instead

I’m a wage office cuck with a 20 minute commute for 10 years now. Still get at least 7k steps at work plus hit the gym after work.

I legitimately have not gained weight. I'm just now going to the gym at 30 because I'm tired of looking like a kid.

It is not. It's just people getting lazy. I'm 37 and have never ever been fat. I workout the same as when I was 27. People in the west are just lazy fat fricks.
