Just got back into BJJ recently, not for self defense but it's fun. Hoping to compete again later too

I got into wrestling recently. I'm told I'm good for a beginner, I'm good for a beginner at basically everything, it's the follow-through of mastering it where I fall off. It's a unique problem to have.

      I have the same problem
I think the coaches just tell begginers that to keep them coming

I only say it because I was told it by a very trusted friend of mine who's autistic enough not to lie about something he cares about. If you're reading this Frenchie, I'm talking about you.

I'm way too fat to try but once I lose weight I wanna sign up for an MMA place nearby, they do Kickboxing, BJJ and traditional Jiu-Jitsu, also Grappling since they are affiliated with a greco-roman wrestling club.

Anyone else feel like there’s no point to learning something unless you could become the best in the world at it or is it just me

I don't know about being the best ever but I could probably make it into a small time org like ONE or Bellator if I trained like, I don't know once a week?

I’m the opposite, I want to have basic proficiency in literally everything but I can’t be arsed to become a pro at anything.
      Pick up a hobby
      Get super dedicated
Spend hundreds of dollars, if not thousands, buying gear
waste sleepless nights researching the topic and becoming very knowledgeable
reach a point where you have 80% proficiency in the topic at hand and can be considered at least B tier or above
      get bored
      find new hobby
      rinse and repeat

such is the story of my life

You don't have to fight the world at once anon, one fight at a time, maybe you make it, maybe you don't, but as long as you focus on the fight ahead of you, be it your sparring partner, a local tournament, county, state, national, international, whatever org, it's the progress of getting better, fighting new opponents, facing different styles, adapting, learning, getting stronger

If you have the mindset that you have to face Gordon Ryan or Jon Jones out the gate you already lost

    I do karate.
I have done other striking arts but I stuck with karate because the club coach is funny as frick in a very scary way and has a shitton of striking experience from competing in a bunch of shit.

        400 euros.
I did spend 100 euros for the train tickets and medical checkups.
And you cant just sign up. The organisers call up different coaches asking if they have fighters for an event, and the coach proposes a couple of fighters.
A random Joe cant just go to an event and say "I want to fight".

You wouldn't make it through a whole month of MMA fights every day without becoming an actual moron, especially if you get your ass kicked.

Got back into muay thai recently but a couple of friends are wanting to box and I'm thinking I might just switch to that full time. Less hip trouble, lower risk of skin infections (I picked one up from gym shinguards already)
    I love combat sports bros

All the effective ones. I go to an MMA gym that trains BJJ, Wrestling, Muay thai, and of course MMA classes to pull it all together.

Recently started doing judo on Fridays too. Super fun. It's new and fresh, and it feels like cheating against people who never train in it and stick only to bjj and striking. Most fighters know wrestling. So few know throws and trips, so they have zero defense against these.

Wrestled in high school and college, and now do BJJ. Both have been pretty helpful in my job as a paramedic, I've had to restrain some patients in the back of the ambulance and grappling is the only way to do that within protocol.
