Will we see aging cured in our lifetimes? Do you engage in any anti aging practices?
>A landmark study in Israel has found that hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) can reverse two key biological signs of aging in humans—the first study to ever make this finding. Published in the peer-reviewed journal Aging, the study shows it is possible to target and reverse the biomarkers of aging at the basic cellular-biological level.
>Recent research on reverse aging has investigated the main signs of aging in the body. This groundbreaking study shows that “at the cellular level, there are two key hallmarks of the aging process”:
>1. Shortening of telomeres on our chromosomes: Telomeres are like the hardened ends of shoelaces. They protect the ends of chromosomes from deterioration. As we age, our telomeres naturally shorten, but a yearly decrease of their length by 20-40 kilobases is associated with serious illnesses.
>2. Accumulation of senescent cells: Senescent cells are cells that are still alive but have stopped multiplying. Over time, these cells can accumulate in the body, and their increase contributes to age-associated conditions.
>In the study, patients aged 64 and older underwent a series of unique hyperbaric oxygen therapy anti-aging programs. Multiple blood tests conducted during the study showed “HBOT may induce significant senolytic effects including significantly increasing telomere length and clearance of senescent cells in the aging populations.” The results suggest aging in reverse is possible at the cellular level.
>The latest reverse aging breakthrough heralds a new era of longevity research. A separate study released in 2020 showed that the same specialized HBOT protocol also improves cognition. It found that “HBOT can induce significant enhancements in cognitive performance,” including attention, memory, processing speed, and other areas.

This. I don't care how long I live I just don't want to spend the last third of my life being an old weak cripple in constant pain. If you said I'd die at 65 but could guarantee I'd be youthful and energetic and healthy that whole time I'd gladly take that deal instead of living till 90 or whatever but in poor health and miserable after 60.

This is why they pushed the killshot so hard. Within the next five years cures for cancer and aging in general will make it out into the open. Any attempts to restrict its use will not go over well, so instead they are just going to kill off as many people as possible first then just let them get out.

I remember reading once that increasing telomere length /didn't/ actually produce a corresponding increase in longevity in presumably an animal model; that the length is a marker of biological age, but unfortunately not a means to modulate it; an effect, rather than a cause

        Anonymous

I thought that once the length got short enough that the body manifested aging, such as wrinkles. Is this wrong?

          Anonymous

no, you're right AFAIK; once they get too short, the cell stops dividing
from what I can find, I might be thinking of studies discussing the observation of telomeres artificially being made TOO long, resulting in increased cancer cell proliferation
they hypothesise that the telomeres deplete - at least in part - to prevent that kind of rapid, uncontrolled growth
so we could make our telomeres longer right now, with those same methods, but we'd get horrible cancers

Most recent study showed that neither 1 nor 2 are directly related to aging (as if you remove those factors, people won't magically become younger). Instead, it was some epigenetic landscape of whatever which was actually making people (or rather mice) old.
