Working out is mostly a waste of time

Got your attention? Good, because I've tried it a few times and can never find a good reason for working out.

Most common reasons for working out:
1. Insecurity. Well guess what? Everyone has insecurities. You're going to be insecure about things no matter the position you're in. I guess gym bros are the few that have become hyper focused about their body insecurities. Plus, it probably can possibly accelerate hair loss if you have the gene for it
2. Health. Okay, a legitimate reason here. But I'm 21, I'm overweight and fortunately never drink soda, I just need to cut off all the other garbage in my life. But I still feel healthy.
3. Relieving stress. I am not stressed or depressed.
4. Looking good. It's like the first reason but it's a shallow reason. You can frick all the women you want but at the wnd of the day a wife is much more meaningful than a frick doll. A genuine, loving relationship matters much more.

Am I missing anything? Why should anyone put so much effort and pain for some mostly illegitimate rewards?

I agree, but to get a wife you need to be attractive.
You mentioned you're fat, just lose weight and see how you look.

OP here, just posting on a different device.

Yes, physical attraction matters but it may not matter as much as you think it does.I'll be honest I never had a girlfriend but I never made an effort to create a social circle into getting one either. As far as I understand, women's attraction of men is more complex than ours. Just don't be morbidly obese or anorexic and that should probably suffice. If you want proof to my claim, just look at Ethan Klein's relationship with his wife. He's fat but still has a loving relationship.

        Anonymous

        >Ethan Klein
he wasn't that bad when he was young, also they are israeli, it's different for them.
        >women's attraction of men is more complex
No, it's pretty simple. Wide jaw, square chin, straight and strong nose, low body fat and hunter eyes.
That's why most guys are virgins now: women were never attracted to them, but they had to put up with uggos back in the day. Not anymore, they have their own money and are free to be themselves, ie, chadsexuals.

Fair enough, he was thinner now that I look back at his old videos and photos.

As for the physical features, they do matter, but the degree on which they matter may depend on the woman you are looking for. If you're looking for a woman at a club, bar, or dating app, then those physical features matter much more. You also have to act like an butthole if you want to be more attractive. But chances are these are low quality women.

If you're looking for a long-term relationship with a high quality woman, they have to be met through social circles, to which I haven't had any for several years due to lack of interest in creating them. I would correlate that my lack of social circles made me having more weight as I grew older, since when I was a kid I had larger social circles, thus making me thinner due to more physical activity of playing with my friends.

this is impossible. either that or youre a loser

      Anonymous

If being content with my life makes me a loser then so be it. I'm not going to lie and say I wouldn't look better with a 6 pack, but it seems that the effort is not worth it if the rewards being is I get a few prostitutes to be with that I know I will never marry.

This only proves my first point that people get depressed of being overweight due to hyper focusing on their body insecurities. The common reason why people work out is that they're bullied for being skinny or fat and let the bullies get the best of them. Which begs the question: are they working out because they legitimately care about their health, or is because they desperately need people's toxic approval in being socially validated?

I've learned to be content on being alone. It's not worth investing into people who will backstab and use you for their own self-interests. I don't trust people and I'm not going to believe the trash that often gets spewed out in this world. Being healthy is the only reason I believe why someone should work out, everything else is for shallow reasons and shouldn't be taken seriously. Frick all the blackpill bullshit that if you're not an absolute stud then the prostitutes will erase your genetic bloodline.

Now que the "haha coping loser" replies.

Most of us work out for self care rather than insecurity, i.e.
    >"I like myself a lot so I'll time to ensure that I am as physically capable and attractive as I can be"
you don't level up a character in a video game out of insecurity, you do so because the game becomes more fun the more developed your character is. Not to say that working out is the only aspect of the "game", but being fit and healthy has a lot of physical, mental and social rewards just on its own

    >2. Health. Okay, a legitimate reason here. But I'm 21, I'm overweight and fortunately never drink soda, I just need to cut off all the other garbage in my life. But I still feel healthy.

Firstly, you arent. Secondly, how you fill will change once you hit your late twenties and your bad habits catch up with you and it will catch up with you.

Sometime in your thirties, or even twenties if your lifestyle is abhorrent, your testosterone will start declining and you will suffer from sacropenia EXCEPT if you do regular strength training in which case the above is moronic, held at bay or reverses until your 70s results.

This is phenomena is known as rhe compression of morbidity which means rather than a longns slow decline to death it becomes compressed sometimes to a few days.

This is the most depressing reply I've seen today but you're absolutely right. I remember my life over a decade ago yet the time went so fast in a blink of an eye. It's a bit surreal that I'm going to feel age related changes in the same time span ahead.

Your post is the only one that actually moved me. I don't plan to die young, so when my future body gets shittier then I may as well get a head start now to reduce the pains of aging. Ever since I was turning 20 I've constantly been thinking about how I'm only getting older and that my previous youth is gone forever.

Looks like I need to stop being a wuss and accept that I'm an old man. It was fun while it lasted, I'm going to muster up the courage to get some gym clothes and finally start moving. Thank you reminding me of the inevitable fate that lies ahead.

Heres the thing anon, the compression of morbidity results in a much higher quality of life. Plenty of testamonials of elderly who say they are stronger, and feel better now than when they were younger. Thats the beauty of strength training, not only can it be down late in life, but the longer you do it the more the benefits compound and clinical data shows a decline of morbidity across the board for regular strength trainers.

Now myself. I am entering my late 30s, and i was a collegiate level athelete, so i have to deal with all the nagging injuries that result from high level athletics. I can say this going drom fit to slovenly and back that those aches and pains were much much worse when i wasnt lifting. Getting your squating your squat above 300 does wonders for back with nagging injuries as you are far less likely to trigger an episode from daily activities whereas before sleeping on it wrong wojud lay me out.

There are a ton of other benefits, greater flexibility, better mode, better libido, stress management etc.

Honestly frick all the other reason people post. Pussy, vanity or whatever, those are temporary, but lifting to be strong and healthy thats life long.

    1. Saying you’re confident and don’t have insecurities is a lie and you’ll get blown the frick out when you get relentlessly mogged irl which will happen if you’re at all social or trying to network
    2. Yes, stop being fat. It doesn’t matter what you “feel” like as a fatty, you WILL feel BETTER if you get your health in check.
    3. You are full of stress if you grew up in the developed west and probably anywhere else too. Chemicals micro plastics social engineering etc. this is probably just a lack of self awareness.
    4. Much easier to find an attractive loyal wife if you are also attractive and disciplined

That reminds me, discipline and routine is probably the most important thing you’re missing.

That's the thing: Everyone makes it sound like you need to spend hours upon hours in the gym and torture yourself to make it worth your while. You don't. You can reap a lot of health benefits by just going for a jog for 15 minutes every day. You can get newbie gains from just doing one set of push ups to failure every other day. If you just want to stay healthy, you don't have to work that hard for it.

Repetetive rythmic movements make my brain calm. Only other sport that can compete with the gym is rowing or kajaking. There are so many sports. Why don't gym haters just pick another activity?

You're 21 now but eventually workplace stress and being overweight will catch up to you.
I hated sports as a teen and had bad back problems back then. Most activities involved too much coordination my sperg brain couldn't handle. The adults in my life always warned me, that this can have serious implications of being able to work later in life. It's good I found something in my 20s. Whether you're doing manual labor or a desk job, you will see improvements.
