Trying to force it will only lead to them rejecting it later. The trick is to instill a fit lifestyle from a young age by making it a part of the whole family's daily routine. Make physical activity something that both happens every day and preferably involves the whole household at the same time. When they're really young the best thing is simple mobility training to help them get better bodily control.
Sports can be added in when they're older, but should be treated as an addition to the daily exercise routine not a replacement for it.
