Doesn't add up to me. Brain issues come after years of actual abuse or after a serious beating. If you're doing it and you feel like you're getting hit in the head too much then stop. If you start trying to compete then you're risking it. Just get good and don't get hit.
Id like to give striking a shot, I’ve been on the fence about it a long time because I’m obsessed with keeping my brain safe, but I think knowing how to box would be a useful skill

Taking a hard punch once or twice is good for your mental health. The pro boxers that you see becoming potatoes late in life do so after decades of full time sparring and fighting.

As it was said a million other times in every misplaced IST thread posted here, the risk of CTE is widely exaggerated unless you're competing.
If you're just training without sparring, which you can most certainly do, there is no risk of CTE.
If you're training while regularly light sparring, there is still no risk of CTE.
If you're training while occasionally hard sparring, still, there is no risk of CTE.
If you're doing exhibition fights every once in a while, you still will not get CTE.
Unless you're a competing amateur or pro boxer, you will NOT get CTE and even as an amateur or pro boxer there is a chance you won't get it.
What's important is that you get some good 8 hours sleep and don't drink after workout, just go to the boxing gym and have fun.
Also, there is evidence that suggests cannabis reduces overall inflammation (which also includes brain swelling from trauma), which would further help reduce the risks of CTE but this board is full of prude homosexuals so I'm saying it in a different post.

Damn that's sadly the case with most Judo gyms now days. Still a cool art but not learning ground techniques or the meta takedowns is a bummer.
i started doing judo very recently (tomorrow will be #7). The class is 1.5hrs and the last 20-30 minutes have been ne-waza so far.
the throws and falls can give you brain damage too

Controlled training of techniques and light sparring is completely safe. It's one of the best sports you can pick up.
