I look at it as more of a lat warmup and good way to go from chest to back exercises on an upper or full body day

I say yay. If you do them properly you can hit pecs, lats, and serratus anterior

Your form is wrong then. Look up the various forms. Flaring elbows or tucking them slightly will determine what gets hit.

Risk of dropping DB + is inferior to machine or cable variation.

You can do straight arm cable pulldowns lying on the floor off a low pulley, or lying on a bench away from a high pulley.

The HIT people do pullovers to pre-exhaust the lats and remove biceps as a weak link.

So just use a lighter weight for 2-3x10 at the end of your workout you don’t have to use 30+ Lbs on these to get benefit

Nay. Use the machine instead. If your gym doesn't have it, just stick to pulldowns and rows instead.

      Actually looks pretty cool

I enjoy it. The adrenaline that's caused by possibility of me dropping the weight and smashing my face makes me lock in like crazy on them. I don't go as nuts on the cable variation. I'm not quite sure about how good it is for gains though.

Absolutely, you need it to stretch and expand your ribcage.
Bring the weight and your hips all the way down as you take as much air as humanly possible.
It feels so good when you discover you can now pop the ribs near your sternum the morning after it, like you unlocked more BONE. Then I see my tiny waist right below a frickhuge chest.

I thought I was the only one who did this. I used to do this exercise back in HS. I wonder if that’s how it started

Idk bro I hate them and its always the last thing I do on chest/back day. They seem like a high risk low reward exercise. In the personal training course I took, it said they were sub optimal.
