At any meaningful weight, this just ends up making me out of breath before I get anywhere close to failure. I guess I could do big singles, but there are better ways to hit back.
Cheat reps. Rows are pretty forgiving without proper form. Mix in a one or two repper that is above what you can do priperly and cheat with your hamstrings. Ride the negative down, resisting as much as you can.
This. Something like woolam rows. I'm checking my strict rows periodically and they're increasing more from cheat rows than they were increasing from, well, strict rows. Deadlift improved too.

i have a home gym so i just do pull ups + barbell rows for back
i dunno if i its because i am a manlet but im pretty much build for them, i row as much weight as i bench (205x10 recently)
proper rows filter people with a weak lower back/hamstrings but i can see why people wouldnt do them since there are better machine alternatives, i still believe they are great for strength and still give you a juicy back, specially if you switch your grip from time to time

my humble opinion on this is. do barbell rows to build the stablizer muscles and exhaust yourself on whatever your favorite hammer strength row is. you can also really squeeze too
so like 3 x 8-15 or heavy pendlay style. combo it but eventually youre on the hammer for slower more controlled reps to really squeeze and stuff.

Barbell rows bros I have a question for you. For some time now I get a painful pinch in my left arm, on the spot where my pecs connect to my arms, so I stopped doing barbell rows. Same thing with machine rows. I was tired of dumbbell rows so I tried barbell rows again, this time without flaring my elbows and using a narrow grip. I didn't have any problems this time. Anybody knows what's up with that? Any advice is appreciated
You didn't warm up properly or your limbs are just oddly shaped for a straight bar. Possibly both. Use dumbbells or try a curved bar instead.
