I think you're right. I was feeling pretty good today. Had a peaceful joy in my gut. Then I decided to jack off and now I am unhappy, angry, frustrated, and tired. Ruined my entire fricking day basically.
If you ever did drugs or drank it won't feel like that. You should feel good leaving rhe gym generally. The only thing I hate about lifting for the last 8 years is stalling a lot more 30 year old natty and constantly worrying about my physique.
I have tried quitting lifting and it's much worse being a lazy slob than a neurotic chad.

Depending on how you train, it can make you used to being uncomfortable. If you're doing squats with 20 reps and that's just the first exercise that day... The day is only going to get better after that.
You're basically having a race against yourself, you can see how you're getting better at what you do. If you keep a log of what you lift, you can easily compare yourself to what you were a month ago. Same with taking progress pictures. You'll feel great when you can see the progress that you've made. If you're truly working hard, even if you were fat, you would still be able to see progress in few months.
For me it got rid of my back pains. I can finally sleep a whole night without waking up multiple times a night to a back pain.
I also feel a lot more energetic.
I'm a lot more secure about myself and I'm not too ashamed of my body anymore.
My posture got better as well.
I got rid of my depression after I started lifting / doing cardio, however, I also quit drinking, got a steady job and so on, so I wouldn't say lifting was the thing that got rid of it.

Lifting makes you feel good and challenging ourself and progressing is good for you, also learning how to work around and cope with faiilure when you bomb a lift.
