This just goes to show the need to question things because it's almost certain we have some things wrong.
I think this particular video was a credulity test of his audience. Or perhaps it was another effort to put an extreme idea up for consideration. One thing in this vein that does seem true is that extreme exercise taxes the body.
Another thought is that I think he does a lot of walking through the woods, and so I wonder if he perceived that his somewhat active lifestyle is default.

Less stress on your joints is good and you will suffer less arthritis as you age. Just look at physically active people in trades such as mechanics, builders, etc. Often their body is fricked at 40yrs old and they live another 40 years in a lot of pain, vs the pen-pusher at the office who hasn't worn down their joints so fast.
The chronic physical workload that tradies endure is way above that of most people who exercise recreationally. They also can't take time off to recover from strains or injuries

A simple fix to this would be a squat toilet like they have in asia, and 10 mins of walking a day, and sitting in a good posture. There isn't any need to go to a gym, dead-lift 200kg and squat 120kg, or go on 5 mile runs. I think whats happening is people are taking fitness way to far. You could argue that the optimal thing to do is just enough to prevent atrophy like you said, but no more as this would only introduce more risk of injury and wear down joints.

Honestly yes, I would want to minimise all 'pointless' actiuvity such as gym, running etc. Sports that I enjoy doing as a social activity I would keep doing because they are actually enjoyable.
