      almost all the machines suck, you won't get any gains using them, and the only reason guys have any arms at all is fricking around with this and 17 curl variations. in general, in fitness, if something is really easy to do, you are not going to get good results from it over time. people don't want to learn more complex movements with their body, and they don't want to increase the weight. so, here we are.

        upper body machines are highly debatable
        but lower body machines are good

    Leg press is based for extra volume work after you've done your squats
    Definitely not a squat replacement though

      it doesn't train your abs directly. your abdominals flex the spine, deadlifts pull your spine into flexion. it's your spinal erectors that extend the spine and counteract the flexion of the spine during the deadlift. all the abs do in that movement is contract to create pressure around the spine, it's not the main mover.

      If you find a good one a pullover machine is the best machine in the gym. I won't join a gym without one. Older Nautilus are still the best because of the cam system but are very hard to find.

    Leg press gets a bad rep but it's possible to get a nice high effort sesh in. My favorite thing is 100 rep widowmakers.

    At a gym I used to go to every morning a twink Muslim guy with zero chest would run straight to the cable cross and spend the first two hours of the place being open doing babyweight flies and then just leave. One day he was running late and I beat him to it and took as long as possible and he was mean mugging the frick out of me. I barely ever do flies on a cable cross just felt like being a cheeky bastard that morning.

    As much as I would want to, you can't get all of your leg volume from squats and deads. Your lower back will be fried while your legs still have room for more.
    Do your heavy compounds and supplement them with these.

    This is the same guy who told me that you should never ever do deadlifts because they only work a tiny section of your back and are dangerous. He says you should do back raises instead.

      You're probably misconstrued what he meant.
      If your only goal is adding muscle to an area isolations and single joint movments are better for that. (assuming you have time for that shit) With machines that allows you go closer to failure safely and with larger volumes than your connective tissue can usually handle and with lower fatigue. There's also limits to your joints and connective tissue not everyone even if they trained from childhood would be able to squat 450 lbs safely. At which point leg press/hack squat or some combination of leg extension, hamstring and back accessories would allow them to progress without the same injury risk.

      Big compounds are less productive in muscle gain but more compact in time required and the compound movments tend to gain strength better because you're actually using muscles in conjunction with each other and pushing that cns output. They're absolutely great but not everyone builds uniformly on them because of insertions and bone structure affect bearing load diffently.

      Some people think their experiences with certain lifts are representative of everyone doing that lift and that's never going to be the case.

I guess I'm lucky girls can't see past my much more aesthetic physique and shame me for my underdeveloped stabilizers."
