They're good for better range of motion and functional training. I use these and weighted bats and mallets. BJJ is full of annoying hipsters though, wrestling is better.
Wrestling is cool if you watch early ufcs wrestlers were basically banned by the gracies. There wasnt a real wrestler until dan severn showed up. That dude was a beast
You just join an mma gym at that point. Traditional martial arts are a mostly a scam, and anyone who denies that probably spends three hours a week bowing and doing kata (ie dancing for fat fricks).
A good bjj school teaches you how to bring the fight to the ground but more specifically how to avoid the ground and how to stand up when someone is mauling you. It’s more of a “a fight is bound to hit the ground so you better be ready” than “let’s dive head first into the concrete and roll around glass.”
MMA- or self-defense-oriented schools are few and far between, though. Better to go with boxing.
>how to bring the fight to the ground
That's not useful outside the gym, mats absorb large portion of the impact. Try doing your man-love on the concrete where your head is constantly one headbutt away from trauma or fracture. >a fight is bound to hit the ground so you better be ready
By that time, the one hitting the ground is usually done fighting. And even if he's not, he either admits defeat, or gets kicked in the head when he attempts to get up. There's no good defense to that, street isn't mma with dozens of arbitrary rules.
Bjj is just not an effective use of your time if self defense is what you want out of it. Boxing + anything that has takedowns and takedown defense is where it's at, after gun loicense or knife.
Bjj is very good time investment for mma, because the rules favour man-love. But on the streets, it's just bad. Better than nothing, sure, but if you put an amateur boxer against bjj black belt in a street fight, i'm betting on the boxer.
you have been drinking to much bjj koolaide your shitty wrestling shitty judo and shitty newaza aren't going to help you. I'm a 4 stripe white belt that consistently out wrestled out grip fought and threw purple and blue belts. Everyone in your school sucks and the only time you have any useful skills are times when if we weren't in a controlled environment i would hit you completely change your game and then stomp you out.
Yes, functional training is all about improving your performance for everyday tasks.
For example, kettlebell swings improve your ability to throw thrash into big thrash containers and from a longer distance.
Name literally 1 (one) weightlifting/powershitting/bodybuilding exercise that does that, yeah didn't think so chud.
>BJJ is full of annoying hipsters
Traditional jujitsu is fine, anon. They use that discipline shit to keep gays in check. Where i used to go only 2 persons were allowed to talk, the guy training us and pupils asking questions about something they didn't understand. I was pretty dope, no one talked to me about anything else but what we trained that day.
that karate shit about gi's, bowing, being polite and keeping your shoes off the tatami. Jujitsu also has takedowns and strikes as it's a "complete martial art". See it as a MMA gym without gays.
I really enjoyed the atmosphere, better than any gym full of gays who look themselves in the mirror like women do.
Also, it's full contact, punch to the face, kick to the thigh, slam to the ground and tackle into submission. There's no ground and pound, but if you really enjoy it, maybe your teacher has some knowledge and can train you.
>tatami
You bring dirty shoes for the wrestling mats, you're gonna have a bad time there too. Save the street shoes for literally anywhere else but mats.
Kettlebells are underrated in the U.S. and they totally mog dumbbells for any swinging motions. I curl with them and built up thick, juicy arms as a result.
You shouldn't, don't listen to the. Run out a novice linear progression, then cut down to 10% bf, then run a ppl variation at maintainance calories until you finally get it through your thick skill that your high school gf doesn't even remember your name.
i never understood the bjj hype, most fights in the clubs were decided on feet and within couple seconds
if you hit concrete, you already lost no matter how good your ground game is
boxing and sambo or judo seems much more effective because a good slam to the concrete will very likely end the fight, if your punches didn't already and they teach defense against takedowns
but when it comes to self defense, gun > knife > run >>> fight
>you gonna lie on your shell like a little turtle in a street fight?
Imagine thinking you must do sport technique in a street fight. Let me guess, a wrestler should do turnovers on le streets to pin opponent?
you missed the point moron
the point is the fight - in most streetfights - should be over while on your feet or by executing a throw or a takedown of some kind.
specializing in ground game is the last thing you'd want to get good at for street fighting.
>you gonna lie on your shell like a little turtle in a street fight? >no one gonna do this in a street fight >YOU MISSED THE POINT!!!!
LMAO at you moron. While specializing on ground work, single and double leg are still the most used takedowns in BJJ.
bjj has shit in it that doesn't even work if you're not wearing a gi let alone if you're fighting irl.
seems to me bjj is a good sport and i hear it transfers to throwing around girls (or bois) in bed: but your time would be better spent elsewhere if you want to know how to fight irl.
its said that so many people actually know what Joe Nobody and Jerko said about a topic that you can actually come here and comment on it.
Get a life you worthless homosexual loser e-celeb addicts.
BJJ I dunno, but anecdotally I believe it puts you in as good a position to defend yourself as any other martial art, given a reasonable amount of practice. This is caveated by the more fundamental principle that engaging in any kind of real-world fight is usually an invitation to be stabbed in the face with a broken bottle, and best avoided at all costs. Stupid games, stupid prizes, yadda yadda.
In terms of kettlebells, I know that they are an extremely effective tool for building physical capability. If you want to be able to go harder for longer, following a decent kettlebell program will make that happen for you.
You wanna look like an underwear model, body-build and starve yourself. You wanna be able to wrestle damned near anyone to death, train kettlebells and practice BJJ.
I am confusion. Why do anons think that training in grappling obligates one to fight on the ground?
If I train in grappling, I'm going to be a lot better at defending takedowns and staying on my feet than if I only did striking. Also, if something goes badly wrong and I do end up on the ground, I'm going to be much more able to escape a vulnerable position, gain a dominant position, and then get the heck out of there if I practice that multiple times per week.
Striking is awesome, but why would you limit yourself? All some butthole has to do is bearhug you and now it's a grappling match.
To answer OP, go try it and find out if you like it. Trying new things is fun.
This. The few stories I've heard of BJJ practitioners who've gotten into trouble out in the wild have been along the lines of the aggressor grabbing a handful of the said practitioner, and suddenly being surprised to find the offending hand removed and their being firmly grasped by the larynx, which has been sufficient to diffuse the situation
>go hard with kettlebells
No reason not to. After learning how to properly kettlebell (Swings/Clean&Press/Thruster are my recommendations to learn) your going to have a better base of full-body strength that can effectively carry over into everyday life, athletics, and martial arts ("Functional Strength"). The basics of KB focus on one plain of human motion, getting off the ground and standing up straight. Double KB exercising will give more mass and monster strength gains. Check out "Armour Building Complex" by Dan John, and any learning you need, YT Mark Wildman, he's concise and direct, no fluff.
i honestly hate doing swings but my legs and posture feel great after doing a bunch of them. i just got done doing 11 swings, rest for a minute, repeat, for like 35 mins
>Explain to me why i shouldnt listen to joe rogain and jocko
Because they're fricking idiots. >kettlebells and bjj
Do it if you want to though, these are fine, even if bjj is overhyped
On stuff like snatch, clean and jerk etc, the Kettlebell will always somewhat "slam" on your forearm right? No matter how good the form is there will always be an impact?
Agreed - it may do at first because the technique takes a little practice to get down. One good way I've heard of thinking about it is to 'punch through' when getting to the top of a snatch or clean - it takes the energy out of the bell so it doesn't hit you. Spend time practising it without trying to worry about reps or intensity etc, and it'll get there.
no it shouldnt slam into it, but its kind of hard to explain how to do it properly. you'll most likely learn how to time the 'hand insert' naturally like i did, your body kind of figured it out by itself the more you do it.
"Poor technique" is israeli disinfo from crab bucket mentality gymlet who want to steal your bone gainz
Slam them as hard as you can for massive forearms
Because kettlebells are a meme from former-Soviet Union, and the guys who got big and strong here from using kettlebells got strong DESPITE using kettlebells not because of it. Everyone here now that uses kettlebells is DYEL.
Also the B in BJJ strands for Brazilian, I don’t know why you would trust anything from Brazil.

Mark Schultz counts as a real wrestler IMO.
Look at all those belts

Thank you i will save this
Check out this geezer.
I still do standard lifting but I'm adding these kind of exercises in with kettlebells etc.

I can’t decide whether I’m a heterosexual or a trans lesbian. Help

half of bjj training is no gi because competitions are gi and no gi
I saw a Reddit screencap where this guy thought he could beat Prime Mike Tyson in a street fight because he has a BJJ Blue Belt.
Kek. Half of them even agreed in comment's.

I've been eating 3k-4.5k cal a day this year and maintained 78-80kgs, due to kb swings. 5'10
On stuff like snatch, clean and jerk etc, the Kettlebell will always somewhat "slam" on your forearm right? No matter how good the form is there will always be an impact?
No. With good techniques you are rolling the hand under the KB before any serious impact occurs. It never 'slams' the arm or your doing it wrong.
Agreed - it may do at first because the technique takes a little practice to get down.
