these pictures are all cherrypicked (obviously... it's a photoshoot). i grew up on a farm, on average they have bodies that go from skinny to dadbod with some more muscle in the delts compared to most people. the thing is that farm people are far stronger than they look and most importantly they're very very durable. farming is all high volume work. we had a gymcel dude come in one day and we had him throw 20- 30 kg haystacks on trucks, he was keeping up with us just fine for the first hour or so then he started getting super tired and winded. the 60 year old owner who weighed like 40 kg less than him was still going like it was nothing by hour 3-4 meanwhile this dude looked like he was about to die.
I'd say those pictures are fairly accurate for the early 1900's and especially the times before that since machines didn't exist or were really rare. Horses can't do everything so there was way more manual labour
