Has he gone insane?

Hes done alot of psychs over the last 4-5 years. Or has he actually reached enlightenment? watching his content for the first time in years, after being a huge fan back in 2014, he seems unhinged lol. Happy, but unhinged. What happened to Frank bros?

I find meditation and enlightenment stuff interesting but frank kinda makes it seem like a meme. id like him to explain what he learned from neuroscience and meditation

also, let me extrapolate further, he is a case study of what happens to a mf aka rich kids (his uncle is a chingchong octrillionaire who funds his life style) when you have no basic survival needs and just have to fill the void with psuedo philosophical moronation (mind completely gone)
basically hedonism unleashed to max and new age hippie autism fully unlocked
but I guess still better than the wagie life in general
    hope that helps

afaik lots of real-deal Buddhist people say he's legit
he doesn't articulate it in the most traditional terms cause he's not like super well-versed and sharp with Buddhist philosophy, but supposedly he has some genuine realization
in Buddhism lay people/householders can attain initial stages of enlightenment but generally full-blown Buddha-level enlightenment coincides with leaving the world behind, no possessions and so on
it's not out of the question at all that frank yang has attained that 'initial' stage of enlightenment, in Buddhist terms
scientific materialists will think the whole idea is all horseshit but what can ya do

i thought neuroscience supports alot of the idea that meditation changes and rewires brain structure

        Anonymous

It does but the aim of the Buddhist thing is very very far beyond the scope of like, mindfulness-based stress reduction and productivity

Im new gay on meditation can OP or you explain from neuroscience perspective? i dont click with the fuddy duddy spirituality stuff

Neuroscience: meditation & mindfulness are solidly shown to be beneficial for mental health, stress reduction, productivity, greater mental well-being, greater frequency of positive emotions, and greater tolerance for weathering and enduring ‘negative’ emotions
This correlates to brain changes, for example apparently intensive mindfulness produces shrinkage in the amygdala - the part of the brain responsible for fear and fight/flight responses.
‘Spirituality’: Buddhism at least, aims to totally uproot the possibility of suffering, so a person who gets ‘fully enlightened’ will literally be at unconditional peace even in the midst of experiences like sickness, loss, death, starvation, torture, and so on. Mentally unfazed and peaceful, because the perceptual ‘thing’ in experience which makes them want any experience to be different, which makes them resist anything (the sense of Self as agent and subject), is uprooted, or seen to have always been a kind of illusion, which made them unnecessarily crave & resist experience. So without it, all experience occurs as unconditional peace, including the most painful experiences imaginable.

I do meditate a lot, but with explicitly spiritual aims.
If someone is just interested in stress reduction, greater emotional/mental health/resilience, and calming down their neurotic mind, I’d honestly sooner recommend yoga, especially yin yoga, and breathing exercises like pranayama. Lots of people are just running around in fight/flight/freeze all the time, and could benefit from something like yoga or pranayama to calm their nervous system. Constantly being in stress responses actually negatively impacts your health. Weakens the immune system, causes attention deficits, lower energy, less restful sleep, etc.
Also, Eckhart Tolle’s ‘The Power of Now’ is pretty good for this stuff.
But if someone wants ultimate freedom from suffering, then I’d point towards Buddhism.

personally I don't see the utility of focusing meditation
I'm more inclined to something like Zazen, just sitting without a 'technique' apart from just keeping aware of the experience as a whole. without drifting into thoughts, letting thoughts pass without absorbing into them, and keeping sensitive to the mind's aversion and grasping to the experience (or to fantasies, to thoughts of past and future, hope and fear, etc) and how this creates a sense of separation and suffering
2 hours a day is really a good ideal for someone who is truly dedicated

but yea true that beginners should probably have the breath as an anchor, for when they get distracted and 'drift off'

I guess it's a good starting point to try to gain a mental understanding of meditation but ultimately your aim is to drop all concepts, understanding, thoughts, attachments and creations of the mind entirely to be completely empty, aware but not aware of anything, it's difficult because if you are trying to do something you've already failed, you undo it all by attempting nothing, a complete paradox
the goal is to be hit with truth and have all the lies of this world washed away
Frank is wearing the costume of an enlightened one but he is heavily steeped in spiritual ego

I mean, Zen monks meditate with eyes open, gazing at a blank wall, and just sit there gazing at the wall, sitting, breathing, not moving, and not doing anything else
best to not have any distractions
