I'm planning to go to the military soon so I'd like to fix my sleep schedule before then. I haven't gone to the gym in over a month because of this issue.

accruing sleep debt is the best way to fix your sleep. Napping is absolutely terrible for you, if you absolutely must nap, you should set an alarm for 20 minutes.
If you are sufficiently tired, you not only will go to bed when you need to, but your sleep quality will also improve.
I have sleep apnea (not fat my jaw is fricked) and I go to a sleep specialist, this is really the best way to sleep. Medications like ambien or even melatonin are not good for sleep, they are good for emergencies, though.
when you get really tired doing this around midday, try and have a short nap, 1 or 2 hours, but make sure you wake up.
I found it tricks my brain into thinking I've gotten sleep so the tiredness goes away, but I'm still tired enough later to go to bed early that evening.
If you're planning on joining the military, start getting your cardio up as soon as possible and train as hard as you can. I trained but nowhere near as hard as I needed to and it kicked my ass. I did end up going from a 3.5 on the beep test to an 8.5 in 6 months though.

This is what fixed my shit. Not that, early but being the morning manager meant being out the door by 8:30am. Now that I have a way more relaxed job again my sleep schedule is a little more fricked up and I have to take sleeping pills to make sure I’m asleep no later than 1:00am. I like this job better but in a weird way I liked the forced structure of the soul crushing one for the better routine.
that's not how you reset your sleep, you don't need to stay awake longer, you need help to wake up, enlist anyone willing to help you, your parents if you live with them, your roomate, pay a neighbor 50 bucks to blast music in your window idc, just get anyone to wake you up 2 hours earlier than normal, than go to sleep 2 and a half hours earlier, the half hour is because you won't want to sleep at first, so just lie there in the dark without using your phone and eventually you will fall asleep. adjust the times every 2 or 3 days until you star waking up early and have the willpower to not slack off.
I used to sleep at 7am and wake up at 2-3pm.
