Is it normal for the scales to say you've gained weight while eating at a deficit? Or should it be going down everyday?

    Water, glycogen, how much food is in your body, etc make a difference. Don't be neurotic and trust the process. You won't gain weight at a deficit.

    The worst thing you can do is increase your deficit until you are seeing a different weight on the scale each morning.

    Measure yourself on an empty stomach and before you’ve drank gallons of water to try and get an accurate read. I typically count my wakeup weight as my most accurate.

    Yes, your body weight fluctuates +- a few lbs. By being in deficit you establish a trend.

    If you want to be super accurate in tracking your weight, measure it once or twice a day, at consistent times, put them all in a spreadsheet and do a regression on it. Assuming you keep a consistent deficit/surplus a linear regression will be quite close to the actual trend over periods of weeks and months.

    Instead of weighting yourself everyday weight yourself every week AT MOST. Every two weeks is also good.

    DON'T WEIGHT YOURSELF EVERYDAY! Unless you were curious about how much that pizza you ate for dinner weights.

    Also try to take a shit everytime before you get on the scale

    depending on what you ate or drank you'll have fluctuations in water weight
    be consistent with your weigh-ins, pick one day a week to do it and plan for it
    eat light the night before, use the bathroom before bed and use it again when you get up
    weigh yourself before hopping in the shower
