I don't even know I think I started lifting before I could drink then started and stopped it probably half a dozen times because I kept getting girlfriends who liked me skinny/twinky.

because there's not real punishments for brandishing a dog or threatening people with one. Just fees and fines. If they put the dog down or confiscated it people might take it more seriously. from my experience, these are at consecutive weeks of steady training(4x/week):

you notice changes in the mirror, nobody else will

your close friends / mother will say something about your physical changes, probably because of chest/arm/shoulder pump

Nah, that's funny though, I didn't even realize it might appear that way. Been lifting kind of half assed since September due to school.
ive been lifting for 7ish years, but there were multiple breaks in there where i stopped lifting for 5-6 months and lost a lot of gains
started in high school, I would say I got significantly strong/big when I was around 22 and 4000+ calorie bulked for a long time; got fat but got strong as well. Over time slowly lost the fat and retained the muscle/strength. have been accused/accosted of being on steroids over a dozen times, frequently get mires. that being said i have a broad frame and good insertions all around so the same person who did what i did may just end up looking like shit, idk

I literally never got mired once natty. During my roided peak last summer it was damn near daily. No wonder people get addicted to this stuff lol
I started at 150lb skinny, now 187lb, (6'1). Took me longer than it should have due to wasting time, bad programming, getting sick, etc.
Something I don't think is talked about much is that once you're an intermediate, it's possible to make no gains at all if you're doing a program which isn't conducive to your own recovery & stimulus requirements, so do NOT grow complacent doing the same thing expecting to grow if you're not getting stronger on a frequent basis.

I've been lifting on & off (mostly on but wasting time), for like ten years. If I had to start over, without muscle memory, knowing what I now know, it would probably take me a bit over 3 years.

That was me too (guy you're responding to) as in I was doing too much rather than too little. However typical strength rep ranges didn't do a whole lot for my development & 8-12 reps on basically everything has done more for me.
What exercises do you do?
This is right now: For upper body I do pec deck (both regular & one arm at a time going across the body), seated OHP, lat pulldowns, chest supported rows, DB skullcrushers, v bar pushdowns, cable lateral raises, reverse pec deck, & machine preacher curls with supinated grip & neutral grip.
Lower body is seated leg curls, hack squats, weighted decline crunches & standing calf raises.
i started lifting at 16 as a skelly and it took like 3 years to become the fit/big guy where the fact that you lift gets randomly dropped in the conversation... But there were times i had no access to gym and less than ideal diet like every beginner so yea

Started in April with icfv2 (yes, I know) for about 5 months, then moved to u/l split
Was basically a skinnier version of what I am now.
