My best friend from college is a registered dietitian and has the body of a Greek god. He said that the best workout you can do is the one you’ll stick with. For me that’s CrossFit. Just ignore all the hate and if you enjoy it keep going. Do be careful in the beginning and focus inform. Don’t get caught up in the need to be the best at exercising.
I go to a CrossFit gym to use the implements sometimes.
Most of the girls into it are quite built. Some obviously on Var or similar, but the regular ones still all have nice thick thighs and ass. The guys however are either jacked and seem juicy, with a few decent Natty physiques but far more in the skinny/dyel zone relative to the number of girls who are in better shape. It’s weird, like the workouts have more cardio demand for guys and more strength demand for girls or something.
That’s for the decently serious ones who do CrossFit workouts outside of class. The classes are mostly moms and dads, and some younger dyels. The trainers are pretty average same as most gyms. I think that’s why the memes on here, 70% of people it’s doing bad form OLY plus cardio and only group classes. 20% are more serious and fit with dyel guys and brap hog girls with decent shoulders. 10% are in great shape and a lot of those aren’t Natty and/or don’t train “CrossFit”.
The concept of WODs is pretty silly but makes it simple for people to train without thinking. The structure of WODs and events is also physiologically wrong for maximising training no adaptation. Which is why probably the better physiques and pro athletes follow a smarter structure. Basically…
Conditioning heavy workouts = ampk pathway
Hypertrophy stimulus = mTor pathway
Very brief very high intensity conditioning may not affect as much. But CrossFit events often go on too long. So you are better off separating days or at least separating into AM/PM. You can still get strength gains doing heavy cardio after lifting, but gains may be reduced.

crossfit is a bigger scam than scientology and try to sue a lot of their critics as well. Go look at your local crossfit gym's prices and ask yourself what about this facility is worth $120 a month? I like the idea of WODs for variety, even though they're not particularly optimal for a lot of people's goals.
I like the idea of a dedicated gym space with quality equipment and trainers who have a good understand of a wide range of lifts and exercises.

What I don't like is the cultish attitude and the price and the total lack of quality control in terms of trainers and programming. Ultimately, I get what I need with my own programming and my own weights.

I've been doing CF for about 3 years. The most strenght gains I got, it's when im doing programs off class. 2years ago I moved out in another town. Now in this CF, the prog is not too good I believe. I'm doing Olympic lifting only 5days a week. and my strenght did skyrocket like never before.
I miss the classes and the group effect. But it's a waste of time. Wish I'd have a bit of cardio in my trainings. but whatever.
I remember not knowing what crossfit years ago when it was new. I was talking to a guy working in the running store and he was telling me how into it crossfit he was. I thought crossfit was parkour and I started describing parkour asking him if that was what he was doing and he got so frustrated with me, but still being nice to me because he was trying to sell me some shit merino wool running clothes or something.
